I would play Dugan on the right wing and give him a license to float around the field a bit in support and for set plays.

I don't think that will happen though.

I know Val at fullback is still work in progress .
But like Brailey , Val seems defensively weak on our tryline at fullback . Seen so many opposition tries with him forced backwards clutching the scorer .
I'd like a BIG body defending at the back.
Also I'm not sure Ramien is fast enough ( after watching 9s only ) to run 90 metres on the wing . He seems an AWESOME centre who can break the line and set up a flyer outside. Correct me if he is in fact faster than I give him credit for.

ramien or gray will be on the wing next year, probably gray

but he is injury prone, there will be plenty of games for jesse

Jesse will play 20+ games if he is first drop after Gray/Dugan. There is no chance both those two are fit all year.

I like Jesse as a centre rather than a winger, but he can grow in to the role.

I don't think I have ever seen someone want a fullback based on goal line defence. You didn't even talk about difusing grubbers. Wow, well done egg.

Im not sure why some people on here keep saying Val is not a fullback. First season in and he would already be in the top 10 fullbacks currently playing. Will be better again with a full off season. he will be like Billy Slater, just needs some time. I personally wouldn't have recruited Dugan, just because i would have promoted Raimen next year and Recruited a winger to play outside of him. But thats just me. Either way we will have some solid backline options next year.

Benny Barba wasn't a big body... and he was awful defending on the try line in 2015 other than that one tackle on Creagh.

Barba 2016 > Holmes 2017 >>>> Barba 2015

... In all parts of the game including goal line defence. Val might not ever be a star fullback but he's still got plenty of time.

All fair calls ∆∆∆
Val does have his positives and will get better , perhaps I'm too impatient .
But , do think Ramien would be a a great first choice right centre next year and have either Dugan outside ( won't happen ) or Val if he hasn't reached the great heights predicted.

Val is a slow burn, he is great at the basics like kick returns and fielding bombs and has that natural agility and acceleration that can't be taught and can be best utilised at the back. The defense and ball playing needs more coaching and time to develop but at least there is buckets of potential and time for him to become that special FB we want if we take the punt and are patient.

Earlier in the year I was originally all for Dugan to FB and Val back to wing but after this season has played out I am reminded how mediocre Dugan is at either centre or FB, he's big and strong and has good D but lacking in so many other areas and he's older than Val and I don't see heaps of improvement in him. The pre-season and trial games should be interesting.

Duges will get injured though so hopefully we see Ramien getting a decent amount of games in the centres next season

val has more tries at fullback this year, than dugan in 2 years

he has more try assists than dugan this year, dugan got 0 at fullback... 0
dugan got 1 try assist in 2016, in round 26

val is averaging more meters per game at fullback

there is nothing, nothing that dugan brings to our team that upgrades on val. nothing.

next year dugan is 28, val is 23

it would be suicide by flanno to move val out of fullback

Good Post
Would you consider Dugan at right wing ?
Even on his exorbitant salary

shows how much reputation and being a 'rep' player means for recruitment - if you were a club that had never seen or heard of dugan and looked at those stats you wouldn't offer him more than min wage as a depth signing.
stats arn't everything sure but likewise they cannot be ignored as they paint a pretty clear picture of duges bringing little to nothing in the meaty end of attack

Dugan will play in the 3 as a direct replacement for Bird.

I reckon we will see

1. Val
2. Feki
3. Dugan
4. Leutele
5. Ramien

some of dugans best games have resulted in 250m, 10 tackles break 0 tries and 0 try assists

as a fullback, he was also last in chances created in 2016 and 2017

simply cannot be our fullback next year

getting us upfield and creating some broken play is where I see Dugan potentially giving us some value - but yea less so on the opponents try line

Bird has looked good on occasion when he has actually run some nice centre lines, ideally we would want similar from Dugan and maybe he can grab himself some try's. Unfortunately the defenders know he probably won't pass it (not in a well executed manner anyway)

Fair enough .
I still believe Ramien scoring or setting up the speedier Dugan would be more effective than Dugan setting up Ramien.
Also Duges defensive reads at centre aren't always brilliant.
Ramien in his rightful position at centre might be better .
Anyhow good to have strike power either way .

I just want to see Val more involved. I know there's a lot more running at fullback, but his support play has been disappointing if only because I thought it'd be a strength of his. Yes his defence and ball playing can improve (the latter needs to – too many dropped balls), but I just want to see him more involved during the finals.
