this is an important game for us, with it turning into a 4 point win with the bye the next week.

I think tautai has to go, he is awful with ball in hand and makes some stupid decisons when in attacking opportunities.

Any other changes needed?

I think Tautai is sort of like Tony Williams - he needs to realise how big and strong he actually is, only then will he turn into a weapon. He didn't play that bad of a game last night, but still made plenty of dud reads in attack (what the hell was with that early kick again?!).

Anyway, if we jump in with the same effort and determination as last night, with a heavily improved Tim Smith, I reckon we'll get one up on the Chooks.

I reckon Morris to left centre, Aiton starting hooker & flanagan to bench.

1) Gardner
2) Fergo
3) Collis
4) MORRIS
5) Gordon
6) Baz
7) Smith
8) Snow
9) AITON
10) Douglas
11) Milo
12) Tupou
13) Gallen

14) FLANAGAN
15) Cuthbo
16) Vave
17) Wright

That for mine is heaps better, lets face it Morris is quicker, smarter, better hands, and is much more likely to set up Gordon. Its got to be worth a try, if it doesnt look like it will work after a couple of games change back but at the moment why not it also gives Flanagan some FG

Also Morris has heaps better lateral movement than Tautai so he would improve our online defense significantly.

Above all else, I think we need to find more minutes for Paul Aiton.

Blix, you must've posted your team as I was writing that. I agree with your team from 1-17. Morris is a better defender than any one of Tautai, Pomeroy, Stapleton or Matty Wright. Plus, as I mentioned, I'd like to find more minutes for Aiton.

Just Tim Smith needs his confidence back up and Tautai to be replaced.
If we do that we surely can have a win.

Would like to see Ben Pomeroy in. Tautai just needs confidence building.

Actually nearly the whole team needs confidence building IMO.

Nice to see people warming to the Morris > centre suggestion.

I agree Coco, Aiton has shown he's more than capable of turning the tide of a game and adding some spark from dummy half. Quite a hard hitter in defence for a little guy as well!

That for me does it,
Aiton needs more minutes as said by Coco, But i reckon stapelton would be a decent centre rather than Morris.
However for Interchange i would much rather 2 toyota cup players, Jake Denford or Tyson Frizell pushing into that number 14 position giving them a taste of first grade.

I definately agree, Aiton should be our starting hooker, he is really creative.

if you want aiton to have more minutes, when morris comes off and aiton goes on for his spell then when morris has to come back on keep him in the backrow with a running sort of role. (i think this sort of happened last night anyway)

Morris at centre doesn’t bother me, his defence seems fairly good and he can throw and catch a pass unlike Poms or Tautai. I say we should give it a go.

Last night was by far the best game I’ve seen Aiton play and he impressed me greatly. Good to see someone we signed improving?

Tim Smith is just way too risky for mine; I’d be reluctant to try him in first grade again.
What are our other options is Lewis still playing well in NSW Cup? I watched Kelly in the 20’s yesterday and was unimpressed, he is still way off NRL. Liked Adam Goode, does anyone thing he would make an impact off our bench like he does in the 20’s?

Personally I think Morris is very underrated amongst Sharks fans. Can't say he's been disappointing at all for us. Would like to have both him and Aiton on the field at the same time for more minutes.

I honestly believe that this team is underperforming massively. For mine we are strong all over the park except for.

1) Gardner - who hasnt really been weak at all I just cant say he is a strength after 3 matches
2) Tautai - Yuck is a weakness
3) Wright - Average

Apart from those 3 positions I reckon we are good.

Morris and Aiton have both been exceptional for us.

Apart from getting an awful bounce on the Mortimer chip and chase try, Gardner has been perfect in the last two games and IMO one of our best.

Tautai sucks but nowhere near as bad as Pomeroy. At least he doesn't let in three tries a game. I would prefer a fit Stapleton but we don't have that option. We all know that Matt Wright is available but he had all sorts of problems defending on the left last year, so Tautai is the best option I'm afraid.

We have a serious problems in this spot. Our options are:

Tautai
Wright (who was awful on the left last year - but OK on the right)
A busted up Stapleton
Williams (unavailable)
Pomeroy (who is terrible - and injured)
Bukuya (makeshift centre recovering from a serous injury)

How's Stapo been going these days? I haven't seen or heard much. Do you reckon he'd be a chance in Tautai's spot? Just wondering, as anyone in the Sharks squad has to be a chance to replace Tautai

Morris is another option, as is Leutele.

Personally, I think Wright deserves another crack if the coaching staff feel he is ready for it. You're exaggerating his problems in defence- he averaged 1.8 missed tackles at centre last year, which is well and truly in the bottom third of the NRL centres. About the same as Izzy and Collis. Tautai looks lost, is low on confidence and his game is riddled with bad options and dropped ball. Apparently Wright's been playing on the left in NSW Cup, give him a crack I say. If not, Pom or Morris.

After watching the game again on replay today and having a clear head, I definitely saw some things differently.

Tupou was an absolute gun on the night. Our best player by far. A ridiculous amounts of offloads, an almost equal amount of tackle busts. Such a gun and if we want to get one up early on the Roosters he needs to repeat it.

Tautai was more useless then I thought. He has poor hands (given that some of the passes we're bad) and has poor reads in both attack and defence. However, I think his main problem is he runs like a girl. The blokes a man mountain, start running like it. I don't think he ever will though, so he's gotta be dropped. A bloke half he size can do a better job running the ball atm.

Cuthbertson was incredible with his carries last night. I noticed when we were playing catch up footy we had Morris and Aiton on the field at the same time. More or less having the attacking boys on to get a result. I think you have to have Cuthbo on in this instance as well. He bends the line more than our starting front rowers, and gives away smart offloads now, awesome to see. He did make a bad read in defence on Saturday night but I'm willing to let that slide seeing it was wet weather footy and a much smaller agile bloke was running on his outside while he was fullpace to get into position.

Team I'd run with;

1. Nathan Gardner
2. Blake Ferguson
3. Dean Collis
4. Matthew Wright / Ben Pomeroy
5. Isaac Gordon
6. Trent Barrett
7. Tim Smith
8. Kade Snowden
9. John Morris
10. Luke Douglas
11. Grant Millington
12. Anthony Tupou
13. Paul Gallen

14. Adam Cuthbertson
15. Broderwrick Wright
16. Paul Aiton
17. Siosaia Va Ve

Mate, that looks like a football team.

I reckon Tautai's majorly down on confidence. I suspect its because the coaching staff have little confidence in him.

btw- You're right, Cuthbo's carries were a lot better. I thought he had a good game except for that tackle. But it wasn't him getting stood up or a bad read I don't think though- to me it was a lazy/tired/shortcut miss. He was sliding too early, and not being honest in covering the inside ball, if you get what I mean. Disappointing, and I think its the sort of thing that got him dropped in the first place.
