@BURGO:

What impressed me was his willingness to involve himself in the game instead of waiting for the game to come to him.

Was that his first game at fullback?

Yeah - that was a good part of his game. Qld forward’s got owned though - so it was tough for anyone in 1-7 to look good.

That’s the first time he’s played fullback to my knowledge since he came down. I think he played a bit of fullback at school up here. He was in the same school/development program as Corey Allan but Allan played a bit of 6 then too.

What I found interesting about him playing fullback is that he doesn't play it with us, always either Wing or Centre but don't QLD have a better option at FB instead of some make shift guy that can play it, and he played pretty well mind you?

You'd think so, but obviously they felt the three centres were better than any FB option available so made them fit by sending one to FB.

Yep, and maybe the two centres they named were better than Ronaldo.

Either way it's good practice for him, I do wonder if he's inline for a wing spot next year, or being looked at for a centre spot in 2021.

Quite possibly although with no evidence to support this I was assuming he was the one that was most comfortable shifting to fullback rather than specifically the worst of the three

Looks like Qld basically picked 17 guys from their pre-season emerging squad and then figured out the positions after a couple of days in camp. There are no players in their emerging squad who are currently the first choice fullback in their 20’s team so in 1-5 they just picked 4 guys who are playing state cup and one who is a super-hyped u18 kid (Tesi Nui).

He’s going to be our wing next year along with Katoa... they will both be better for this year of development.

If he shows he can play FB well even better... don’t have to deal with Moylans dropped balls

I've liked the look of Wilton for a while, and I know the club has had wraps on him for a while but he's coming really nicely imo.

Not sure when he'll get a look in since he seems to always play left and we have Wade there, but you assume the club will do something to get him in the 17 eventually.

Interested to know other peoples thoughts but he reminds me of Cordner a bit.

With Wades recent injury record, his path to the team should be sweet

Brad Mackay is a guy I’d liken him to. Genuine back rower but has the defence to play wider if needed, plus has the hands, footwork and ball-playing skills to make the guys around him better.

How far off first grade do you think he is?

Not far. I think he’s played his way past Sorensen for 2020. I’d say he debuts between now and next June, and he’s a full time NRL player by 2021 at the latest. If Capewell leaves Wilton should get his spot.

Plays a bit better without Kennedy ****ing him over but at 190cm needs a few more kilos because he ran back with some vigour but was pretty easily handled. Could be good at around the 98-100 mark if he can get there and maintain pace
