Looked good in a trial for us and think he's been mentioned as going decent in Cup too... wasn't in our original squad at start of season so has he been upgraded to replace Ava?

My top scorer bet on Katoa is not looking so good.

So much for that get-rich scheme.

Looks like he can make a break ok. Defence maybe a problem according to the stats.

https://www.nswrl.com.au/players/nsw-cup/newtown-jets/ronaldo-mulitalo/

Could easily be misleading though... plenty of wingers missed tackles can be attributed to inside men forcing them to come in and not get a proper crack at the tackle.
No idea if that is the case or not, just (imo) winger is the position where a miss is most likely affected by teammates being too far in or not sliding properly.

A lot of line breaks can be the same, winger gets them because of good work by his inside or bad work by opponents inside.
He has decent tackle breaks though which suggests he can create his own line breaks.

Geez you guys try read a lot in to stats. Watch the game FFS.

I have several write ups on Mulitalo from the last year or so - mostly in the Flegg thread and also some in the centre depth thread and the Newtown thread

Short version is that he is a gun centre who probably would have been in the Qld u20’s team last year had he not been injured (he did his shoulder and missed most of the year). At the start of last year he was considered a much better prospect than Ferris, and Ferris only got into the team after Mulitalo got injured.

His first game for the Jets wasn’t great but he’s been good since then and has been destroying the 20’s when he has played down there.

He was a development player - so it does look highly likely that he’s been brought in to the top 30.

It’s pretty clear now that he is well ahead of Lumelume and also now ahead of both Gray and Ferris.

burgess, given he is 18th man who do you think he is cover for? Specifically, is he able to play centre or fullback? If not would you read into it that either Xerri or Morris is carrying an injury?

Fair comment mate, but I have been unable to watch any of these games, and admittedly haven’t had time to trawl my way through the Flegg thread. Just googled some of his highlights an hour or 2 ago and he looked great in attack. The stats page just came up and I merely stated what it said. More than happy to accept the fact that he is good player with a lot of potenial and that stats don’t mean everything. Glad that you have further enlightened me.

For some reason I thought he'd been playing wing, not sure where I ended up with that. I could have sworn he played some wing in our trial so maybe I just thought he'd been playing Cup there as match reports don't always mention position.

Apologies for reading into stats by suggesting they can be misleading also

Feki also gone down hurt briefly most games, Morris was mentioned as a potential injury before last week but appeared to play fine

He’s a good prospect, would be more advanced in his progression if he hadn’t had those shoulder injuries.

I think he’s just going up to get a feel for NRL preparation etc. They do that a lot with the young guys.

He is a centre who has been playing a bit of wing when needed for Newtown. He also played wing in the Manly trial. I wouldn’t really consider him for an NRL wing spot though. If he’s in there as injury cover it is likely for a centre.

Next depth options for fullback would be Ferris (dev player) or Polselli (non top 30)

Clarkey’s NRL column is reporting that Mulitalo’s contract has been upgraded.

If he is indeed having his contract upgraded, maybe it’s a reward of sorts for him to get to travel home to Brissy for the weekend to be the 18th man.

After losing a few lately I’m looking forward to the next wave of Queenslanders for the Sharkies.
