geez, he isn't the worse we've had blow through the place. no idea how much he was on but i thought we got decent value out of him, better than the bunnies did by a long way.

ive always wondered where eion crossan is these days? still remember him when we beat gold coast by 40 missing the shot of goal from in front

ha, that's right - cov was a bit like that at times. i remember crossan had a good game against the raiders when we upset them at shark park one year. i was in a bingle on my way there and ended up listening to most of the game in a tow truck / smash repair workshop.

i reckon johns and albert were the worst in terms of taking it easy in the sharks retirement village. vagana would be next in line. mapp was just an atrocious buy, he was never going to do anything.

we have more succcess with lesser known players

your adam peaks and nathan gardners

and craig stapleton

Agreed on the injury thing but indiscipline saw him spend a fair bit of time off the paddock under suspension so we didn't get the best value for money out of him.

BTW: Tupou shouldn't be in that list. With our supply of good back rowers I've often wondered how he would go out in the centres.

Good idea Fitz. He could end up a bit like Phil Bailey.

Chris anderson

I have to agree he probably wasnt a good fit for our club.

But, in last few days on here it got mentioned that he did blood Bird and Gallen. So you gotta give him some credit.

Top the list

Vagana would have been great for us if we had a game plan , instead of Noddy turning the ball inside all the time

Still cant believe , and I bet neither can he , that he was dropped to reggies by Raper

I hate to say it but we the Cronulla Sharks are without peer in making players w/ big repuations turn into or become mere firstgraders.

Maybe I'm wrong as I love the Sharks & over scrutnaize them but I cant think of any other club that can match us on this topic.

thats because he wasnt that bad snow

You gotta remember when Trent signed we had Bird, Seymour, Kearney and De Gois part of our squad. Its not his fault all he ended up with is Scott Porter, Blake Green and tim Smith.

I think Vagana was the worst, waving his hand up meekly out wide for a kick or pass, terrible.Honestly though,as a general comment i reckon theres been much bigger duds at other clubs, just can think of them at present.

I can think of one - Adam Ritson.

He was a champ with us, but Parra bought him, he got a brain tumour and that was the end of that.

I thought he went ok at Parra before the brain tumour, off topic here but the worst thing about SL for us was losing him & Raper, I reckon we could have rolled Broncos in 97 with them in our squad.

I think its harsh putting Barrett on the list. When he first signed we had a great squad which looked like it could carry the torch for the next season or two.

I think he did very well with what he ended up having to work with. He played a couple of origins.

...

I always rated Vagana. What we'd give now for a try-scorer like him. I think he is in the same boat as Tupou in that the rest of the team wasn't good enough for him at the time.

...

Thats a good point there SF. Lets just pretend that Nigel Vagana was born 5 or so years later, and therefore still playing. Should the Sharks sign him?

NSW might not be dominate but we still have the larger range of players to pick from, you don't get picked with no form at all.... even our worst selections have been going well for their club. Yes that does include Quinn, Wallace etc, your arguement of NSW being crap has got to be almost as bad as Porter almost played City Country Origin.

He didn't get picked over Gallen, Bird, Lewis, Hayne, TLL, etc as captain cause he is a dud. No Barrett might not have been better then these players but he was more suited to captain. You are not suited to captain your state if you can't play well for your club.

Barrett did not deliver great results for the Sharks but he had next to no talent around him ffs.

well, when you starting 5/8 in game 1 is jamie lyon, your wide range of talent that you have to pick from must be incredibly small

and the "barrett had no talent around him"

in 2000, the year after they lost the grand final, the dragons were plagued with injuries, had to blood juniors, lost mundine (a wanker but a helova footballer), in that time, barrett had next to no talent in the team, took them to 9th place and won the dally m

so, when he delivers us 12 wins from 48 games, yes, he can be placed on the high profile players signed that produced jack for us
