the lack of trent barrett in this thread is surprising
really... i think he was very, um... not worth what 600-700k for 12 wins?
im sure he wasnt on that much
Uncle Trent was useless for us. Might as well of blooded a young half for 2 seasons, saved a few hundred thousand dollars and had a bit of a reason for the crap results.
The only person to partner Trent in the halves at the Sharks who is still playing first grade is Seymour and he's at the Warriors, so we got nothing out of it.
exactly... lately we have got more progress with little known players like peak, norrie (08) de gois, seu seu, kearney, seymour, covell ect
With the exception of De Gois and Covell, the rest we let go of. And I'll even add Millington to that.
Keep the big names who are garbage and blame it on them being surrounded by unknowns who are going good. Get rid of the unknowns, replace them with blokes who are known, but past it.
Pretty much sums up our recruitment and retention practices.

While he didn't give us any great results he was good enough to get the call up to SOO and he even Captained. I wouldn't say he was a dud, he just didn't have the support crew to make a proper impact.
Heaps more but I saw people screaming for Tahu to be signed here too so I guess people just don't learn.
Penrith recruit Timana Tahu can be the Panthers' new Frank Pritchard, Greg Alexander believes

Penrith recruit Timana Tahu has lost his speed and should move to the back row to fill the hole left by strike player Frank Pritchard, Panthers great Greg Alexander believes.
Since returning to league with Parramatta last season, Tahu, who signed a one-year deal with Penrith on Wednesday, has struggled to regain the fleet footed style that made him a New South Wales star and dual international.
Fox Sports commentator Alexander believes Tahu's future in the NRL would be enhanced by making the transition to the pack.
"He's probably lost that agility that he had when he first burst onto the scene," Alexander told foxsports.com.au.
"He'd probably be 10 kilos heavier than what he was then, so I think the back row would definitely suit him.
"With the departure of Pritchard on the edge of the ruck there, it's probably a spot where you're looking for someone that the halves can look to as a bit of a hole runner."
In which position do you thinkTimana Tahu will play his best football in the future? Have your say at the bottom of the page.
Alexander's observation may come as a shock to the former Newcastle Knights winger, who told new coach Matthew Elliot that he "sees himself as a representative centre".
But with incumbent centres Michael Jennings and Brad Tighe coming off a season in which the Panthers top the NRL for points scored after 26 rounds, Alexander believes Tahu can complement the Panthers attack by playing as a wide running backrower.
"I think he'd be well suited just on the edge of the ruck," Alexander said.
"He's a good hole runner, he's big enough and strong enough and he's more of a power player these days than he used to be when his footwork got him on the outside of people.
"He's more of a straight over the top type player now."
Alexander says Tahu would have no problem defensively in the forwards, and it’s a move that could have been made at Parramatta last year.
"His defence is as good as any in the game; so that’s no issue.
"Last year when he returned from that four week suspension and Jonathan Wright had played in the centres for the Eels for that period - I was actually talking about Tahu playing in the back row then."
Tahu has seemed to attract unwanted headlines since his return to the NRL, but Alexander says Elliot will be the perfect mentor for the 30-year-old.
"Matty's a good man manager and he looks after his players on and off the field.
"So Matt would be good for Timana in terms of talking about things.
"If there are any issues, Matt's the sort of bloke that can help a player off the field."
Bit Rough puting Ross and Topou, Ross had a bad run with injuries and we all know why Topou hasnt been playing well
heres how they rank IMO
1. Chris Anderson - single handedly destroyed a promising era at shaks park
2. Ben ross - injuries etc doesnt take from the fact he cost us a fortune and hardly played
3. Josh Hannay - S.O.O to park footy in one season
4. Nigel Vagana - He seemed to try but was at the back end of his career. was never a 5/8 for mine
5. Cuthbertson - fat oaf who will probably shine at the dragons
6. Darren Mapp - 1 game 200k, real clever
7. Barrett - was never really going to work out, has there ever been a success story to come from playing a season or 2 in the ESL then back to the NRL.
8. Toops- he has tried, he was probably fortunate to play internatonals etc in the first place. we paid too much for too many seasons.
