Paul Gallen - Help or Hindrance?

I disagree. Gal has a good offload but his ball paying skills are poor

Paul Gallen would be the best decoy runner in our team - fact!

Imagine Carney going to the line with Gallen running a flat outside in line off his hip carney pumpes the ball to Gallen then throws it out the back to Pom (ohh god) who is running an inside out line into a gap big enough to drive a bus through!

Seriously any defender in their right mind would slide in to take Gallen.

I said this last week. The amount of defenders a well ran Gallen decoy would draw, with Carney puttin the ball on the chest of a winger or centre would set up a try for sure.

Of course what you say is true and we know that but Gal's just gotta start playing smarter and stop trying to be everything to everyone. He is not a playmaker and definately not a natural ball player, especially before the line. Thats what we are saying on here. This is not something new.

I highlighted an attacking play last year to use close to the line where the half drifts across field to Gallen running straight, Pomeroy is running a bit wider and then Gardner is wrapping around the back. Much like St.George always did with Creagh, Cooper and Boyd. Everyone knows its coming but stopping it is another thing. It gives you three options, short ball to Gal, wide face ball to Pom or out the back to Gards. Gallen and Pomeroy 99% of the time will not be stopped one on one and then you have Gardner. The defence will instantly put 2 or 3 players on Gal so that opens it up for the rest. So why dont we see this? Its so simple. Instead of Gal being a decoy and sucking in the defence he just demands the ball and tries to do everything himself. Got to be smarter than that.

Gal would be the greatest decoy in the comp. LESS IS MORE. Being great is more than just playing 80 minutes with 30 hit ups for 200 meters every game. He is the captain, the leader. He has to do what is necessary to improve his team and get them winning.

I think our "attack" is coming along quite nicely, despite having a lack of standout firepower in the backline, Colin Best for mind is the only player that has no fear of that long white line,

as it has been discussed many many times in the previous week that it just seems like that last pass won't stick, Paul Gallen has naught to do with players dropping the ball before the tryline!

Ben Pomeroy is a fantastic player with an abundance of talent, especially picking lines and one on one offensive situations, plus his now trade mark "slam tackle", unfortunatley though he panicks, alot, especially in space!

Gal was known a few yrs a go for having the most dangerous offload in the game, now it seems he is trying to be too ball playing, passing from left to right. I would like to see him just run hard, and occasionally offload.
