I was relieved when Newcastle took the kick to even things up. I had the feeling they would have scored a try out of the next set of 6.

Maybe we should have adapted better to how the refs were controlling the game but we simply dropped too much ball (62% completion rate). We dropped the pill on the first tackle 3 times. That’s just not helpful!

We definitely had other issues that lead to the loss outside of the play the ball

On reflection I think there were still quite a few positives. I mean the first half we had what 30% of the ball at one stage and we just kept turning them away. Their two tries in the second half, one was off a forward pass and the other was an intercept, which if lee hadn’t take we probably would have scored instead. We didn’t have much time spent down their end but had a ridiculous no try call and bombed 2 or 3 chances. So even though we were trash in attack we probably atill
should have won.

If we control the ball and stop giving away stupid penalties we will win a lot more game than we will lose. I can see us bouncing back well this week, playing on a dry day track at home with 9 days rest vs titans who get 5 with travel.

Must win next week, put last Friday down that we just shat ourselves when 2 points were up for grabs, playing them in the trial & beating them 2 weeks earlier did nothing other than makes us appear less focussed.

The fact is, while we are a decent team who are capable of going toe to toe with any of the gun teams when we are on we dish up way too many games where we upon reflection look back & have simply donated the two points to them, we have been doing this for the last few seasons & again in 2019 we are on track to do so again.

Guess I chose the right game to miss (even had tickets and live 5 mins from Knights ground) to take up an offer of 12hrs work on Sunday rates.. At least my bank account won in Friday...

Yeh, probably sounds too doomsdayish but geez, same old same old, Manly game last year, whad they finish, 15th, we couldn’t get the job done at home, there were other games too, that Manly game, we win that, we finish minor prems, seriously, our playing group need a rocket up for some of the games we drop, 0-1 to start the season in a game we shouldn’t have lost.

Very few positives to take out of that game but I thought we defended well considering the amount of ball we turned over and the field position we gave them.

One thing is for sure we need to stop running back into the ruck. It clearly wasn't working yet we kept doing it time after time. You'd think with the amount of experience we have out there that it would have been changed. Needed to get it wider where we were making the yards

John Morris needs to use the bench better, I know its only his first game in charge but there's no need for Fifita to play the whole first half, he works better in short stints and there's no need to keep young jack Williams on the bench not being used

No forward should be playing more than 25-30 minutes with the bench rotation we have

After the titans performance last night how do you think the team will go into the next game? I hope they are fired up because the titans are a bit of a bogey side for us and if we play anything like we did on Friday we are in for another long weekend...

i think friday against newcastle will be a wake up call

we are better than them, played like **** and only lost because our half back tried a miracle play when he is ****ing useless

we defended well, kicked well, chased well, just dropped too much ball and invited the knights to attack us

the amount of energy we sapped by defending instead of attacking took its toll on us

johnson and dugan cant play that bad as a combo again either so the only way is up for us

probably a good thing we get a game to back up against a team like the titans instead of the storm or roosters

I agree with all of that but a game against the Storm or Roosters in Round 2 would have been good for us - doesn't leave any room at all for complacency.

Playing the Titans lets a little still creep in.

yeh im on the flip against that, playing a team you should beat and losing and then playing a team better than you and losing wouldn't be good for morale

losing 2 winnable games will be worse so i cant see the boys letting that happen

now i have settled a bit with the disappointment from the game, here are my player ratings for the game

1 - Moylan - played well, looked like the only bloke who could break the line, couple of mistakes but looked better than his previus game at fullback. 8
2 - Feki - didnt notice him. Game compounded when he spilt the ball over the sideline when no one was touching him. ordinary. 6
3 - Dugan - got involved a bit, fed some **** passes but blew a big chance by not passing to katoa. defence was good, can only get better. 6.5
4 - Morris - looked threatening, big upgrade on leutele. unlucky on the forward pass call. defended like a champion. 7
5 - Katoa - strong runs but not much all to do. had no option but to tap the ball up, however, it is illegal. wingers are our issue. 6
6 - Johnson - he was crap. not the debut we wanted. can only get better. huge kick to get us out of trouble. 5
7 - Townsend - apart from being trash, he literally cost us the game. will be lucky to be employed at the end of the year. 2
8 - Fifita - no real impact in his runs and looked knackered, not his fault though. needed a rest. only bastard that had a dig in the middle pigs. 7
9 - Brailey - ordinary. doesnt kick. doesnt offer much in attack. looked exhausted. sloppy service second half. 5.5
10 - Prior - no real impact and made an awful decision to push in for their first try. 5
11 - Capewell - he is what he is. not really flash, runs hard though. really missed wade on the edge. 5
12 - Nikora - what a debut. great defender, strong runner, hates being tackled. need more of him. get him the ball. 7.5
13 - Gallen - lacked impact, was on when we were defending rather than attacking. the dropped ball summed up our entire game. 5.5

14 - Brailey - no impact, sloppy service, maybe first game jitters? hopefully he gets more minutes to see what he can offer. 4
15 - Williams - give him more minutes. hits hard, runs hard, intimidating character. 5
16 - Woods - his runs had little to no purpose but he was getting quick play the balls. 5.5
17 - Bukuya - Honestly didn't know he was on the field. 4

John Morris - first game, got his bench wrong, game plan wrong, but he wasnt dropping the ball. gotta back him to get it right. 5
