Maybe a sprinkling of reality required . Sure Nicho is a fan favourite & we should support him like any of our players through tough times .

The key quote in the above article is " When the time is right " & " have a conversation about a long term deal " .

Agree being an " NRL poster boy " is worth $$ to our club but doesn't make a great player or mean lifetime allegiance to our club eg Valentine.

Nicho is still in the " potential " category as a player . To move to the next level he needs to show he can lead us to close out winning positions such as the Cowboys semi last season & not look like a deer in headlights as happened in the Souths semi.

We can then look at an ugrade and " have a conversation about a long term deal " rather than let Nicho's manager & Buzz talk us into a "lifetime deal " or get us to follow the @Blues_Eyes 84 approach and " Give him whatever he wants " .
Our edges in the Rabbitohs was terrible in D, you could tell we had no consistency in the outside backs. We also lacked momentum and grunt. This was not a Nicho thing. People just like to blame the halves

****ing around waiting for him to 'prove himself' further, will only lead to him being able to test his value on the open market.

An upgrade and extension for him is a no brainer.

He can't until November, I'm sure we'll act before then. I'm still happy to wait a few rounds.

I'm not by any means saying you need to get it done before the season starts, more responding to if you're going to wait and see if he can close out big finals games, he'll just wait a few more months and test his value.

IMO there's nothing left for him to show really. He's a top tier half and I think the longer it takes to extend him the more we will pay.

Yeah no way can wait until finals and we won't.

He can't sign anything until November... doesn't mean he can't have "unofficial talks" with other clubs.

But I think we're doing it right... say the right things in the media now and get it down midway through the season.

The club and Nicho look like they're headed in the same direction, don't sweat it
Agree , just don't read the headlines particulary any from Buzz.

Just hope the Tigers , Broncos , Dragons , Manly etc continue to give him easy targets for stories

If Nicho's manager has done his job he would be getting a nice increase via a rachet clause already & the manager no doubt will ensure there are a couple of stories re other club's interest over next couple of months .

Club needs to tell him what they have in mind for him in the life after football sense - make it clear he will be setup for life and have a stack of options through the Sharks. It's not just about the money he can earn over the next 5 or 6 years

Get him sorted sponsor, business, club, media, charity / projects wise - whatever he wants to do once the footy career comes to a close.

We are not a broke ass club on the nose with the media anymore and we should leverage that

Lot of effort for an out of position fullback who can't control a team or kick, as some see him

Just get it over with and give this bloke the keys , put the “c “ next to his name this year. He’s won the hearts and minds of the public and officials alike. Disservice to the club not to do it sooner rather than later .

Yeah 875k, I'm pretty happy with that given the cap increase. Nicho is just so impressive it isn't funny, he'd get more than that elsewhere I reckon.
Hvae to keep reminding myself that our new breakout star player is 26 years old... crazy.
