If that’s the case then a bit of growing up is probably needed on both sides. Johnson staying at Cronulla benefits him and the club. Make it work. Because we CANNOT go into next season with a Moylan/Hynes combo.

Agree, new coach new start, 2 yrs Market Value, happy days. Fingers crossed the impasse is broken. He's been good with us .

The difference between moyza and SJ is attitude. The report came out the other day moyza said he wants another contract and to finish here, train hard and repay the club. All you hear out of camp SJ is sulking and doesn’t give a ****.

I know attitude and ‘effort’ isn’t much but I know who id rather have in the side.

If Moylan had good hammys and a proven kicking game I’d agree with you. But Johnson is far and away clearly the better and more balanced halves partner for Hynes. Hynes/Moylan as a combination will.....not......work.

Need to try to work it out with Johnson. It sounds like both he and the club just need to grow up a bit and look at the big picture, which is that it is mutually beneficial for Johnson to remain here.

I'm not sure I have heard that from camp at all, just people saying it on here and then other people repeating it because they saw it said on here.

Idk, just put the best players in and work on kicking in the off season.

Is it really that hard? Put your foot through it on the 5th, it ain’t rocket science, build a good forward pack around them you’ll need less responsibility on the kickers.

We will be ****in lethal in attack with Kennedy moylan and hynes.

Bring on the carnage

Chad did like anywhere from 40-100% of our kicking depending on who he was partnered with and was continuously trashed for the fact he was on the lower side of range and height of regular NRL kickers.
Bold to assume we'd be happy with people who are not established kickers (probably for a reason) just doing there best.

What? Attitude & effort is everything.

Not a topic I'd delve deep on in regards to either SJ or Moyza though.

If attitude and effort were everything we wouldn’t be sitting here celebrating Townsend’s departure. Sprinkle a lot of natural ability along with a touch of good coaching in there with that attitude and effort and you’ve got something cooking.

Everyone saying Moylan / Hynes to be the halves pairing next year but I think it’s more likely to be Trindall / Hynes. Injury to Kennedy and Hynes goes to fb with Moylan and Trindall in the halves

How do you think an average skilled player like Townsend has a long NRL career?

It's the difference. Whether its between a really good player & a first grader or a first grader & a rep player.

There are freaks who can be an exception but they don't tend to last as long.

If that's the case we need to be playing Trindall there now.

I'm curious as to whether Johnson is in our best 17 if he starts to drop off knowing he's not here next year.

I think SJ knows he needs to still showcase what he can offer and can’t rely on historical form, Especially after his Achilles injury.
He plays to his best (or close too) to attract the suitors otherwise he shoots himself in the foot and definitely won’t get anywhere near the reported $800k he is seeking.
It also makes it look like we are geniuses by not extending him, so pride will also be a contributing factor for him to play well and stick it to us long term for not meeting his requests.

Time will tell. If he is playing to his potential then I would keep him there, regardless of next year (whilst we still have a shot at the 8)

And if he continues on from last week and plays well, we look like arses for not moving off 400k

I’m not disagreeing.
I was hoping to retain him, not lose him.
Maybe not for $800, but $400 was definitely a lowball offer.
Middle ground would be a win, win. Say $600, or even $650 if he confirms he can still play to somewhere near his previous levels after his injury.
