Something I have not seen discussed.

Why was the LHS defence so solid last year (Sharks 3rd best defence? ) & so shizen this year.

Was not the variable Wades experience was not on the left edge anymore & replaced by a young gun who is not as strong a defender in Tieg Wilton.

I wouldn't have thought Moyza would be any better or worse at defence in his twilight years - more like a perfect storm of average defenders.

In my opinion, from worst to least worse Rd 1 to 20 2023

A combined metric of ability to read what's going on and the techique/ ability to defuse as a working left hand side defensive unit.

Ronaldo. Great high ball diffuser, but remains is, in my opinion, the worst at reading what's going on and getting beaten on the outside.

Talakai - Oil Tanker being run at the Jet Skis- what can you expect?

Moylan-- Reads what's coming, but too slight / poor technique to stop a line runner at pace on the line.

Wilton - Good Technique, but not making solid desisions.

—-------

Tricky, improved LHS - good technique and reads: now to improve what he is in the side for.... attack. Should have carved up a depleted and out of positions Roosters RH defence.

Wade, improved defence from Warriors game on.
Re Moylan - to steal a quote from Dragon :

Time takes its toll , and it took it fast ..

Re Wadeo. He was heavily criticised on here for a few seasons but I thought that once he finally got fit and firing he improved our side a lot.

Fit and firing happened to occur about 3 or 4 games before his retirement unfortunately.

Probably worth noting that Teig started about half the games at second row in 2022 and also came on and played there from the bench some games. I’d say he was there for at least 50% of the minutes…. so while he had some teething problems, if you are looking for things that changed he wasn’t really a variable. Maybe teams just had more opportunities to do video on him this season.
