Rumoured, dramatic twist in Cronulla star’s future

Sharks star Matt Moylan has turned his career around in the space of a few months and is reportedly about to reap the rewards.

Sharks star Matt Moylan has gone from the outhouse to the penthouse in the space of a few months.
The playmaker was instrumental in Cronulla’s win over the Sea Eagles on Thursday night and his future is looking brighter every time he steps onto the football field in 2022.
Moylan was reportedly forced to accept a one-year, cut-price contract last year as a result of a form slump.

He remains uncontracted beyond the 2022 season, but it has now emerged the 30-year-old’s career will be extended into at least 2023.
The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield reports the former Panthers captain is wanted at the Sharks next year and coach Craig Fitzgibbon is ready to talk deals.
“Interesting with Moylan, they only signed him for one year because they weren’t convinced in the off-season that his head was right, that he was putting in to justify his salary,” Rothfield said on Fox League’s NRL 360.
“But Fitzy said, and I spoke to him this afternoon, they’re ready to talk again.
“He’s shown them enough in six weeks that Fitzy wants to sit down and talk next year.”
The situation has taken a dramatic twist with a suggestion on Friday, Moylan may have attracted the eye of Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett.
The veteran coach is reportedly getting desperate in searching for players as the new franchise prepares to enter the NRL next year.
Channel 7’s Michelle Bishop told SEN she would not be surprised if Bennett swooped to trump any offer the Sharks were prepared to put to Moylan.

“He’s very comfortable in his role at the moment with Nicho Hynes,” she said.
“I called them the odd couple and I was worried about if that was ever going to work. And it has.
“I’m just going to put it out there, with his performance and even last night, I won’t be surprised if Bennett and the Dolphins don’t come and have at least a conversation with Allan Gainey, his manager, if the Sharks only offer a one-year deal.
“His utility value is really solid if he stays injury free that is. He’s such a good buy at the right price.”
Teammates said during the pre-season Moylan had impressed them with his performances.
Braden Hamlin-Uele declared Moylan had been in “scary” form heading into the start of the year.
It comes after reports the Dolphins have signed Panthers playmaker Sean O’Sullivan.
O’Sullivan impressed in the No. 7 jersey in the opening three games of the season while Nathan Cleary was injured.
“The other thing I think we’ll find in the next few weeks will be (the Dolphins) halfback next year will be Sean O’Sullivan from the Panthers,” Phil Rothfield said on NRL 360 this week.
“He is only on a one-year deal at Penrith. He was outstanding early on. Admittedly, he was spinning the football to a great backline at Penrith.”

A solid keep but not worth fighting for, if he can get an extra 100k+ or longer deal he should take it.

Current price I’d be okay going to two years. Maybe a little more for one year.

So the 7 news reporter said "I wont be surprised if Wayne Bennett and the Dolphins...."

Wow what a Scoop. Whoever wrote this article has some contacts in high places!

Not based on his recent pre 2022 history and still with the very possibility of injury.
Thing is, its also a test of loyalty.
We showed 'faith' by extending him by 1 year, albiet on a reduced contact, after what can only be described as a disasterous 4 year initial contract.
Lets see if he trys to make us pay overs and plays us off against Dolphins, or whether he accepts a 1 yr extension on same terms as 2022

Agree. Thay article also said he was forced to sign a one year reduced contract.

No one forced him to do anything.

In saying that, if he continues his current form and stays injury free I hope we can keep him.

Who might we replace him with next year ?
It would be better if we can keep him for another year, gives us more time to look for someone else. But I really don't want to be sucked in to giving him more than that.

We’d have to shop, get someone to compete with Trindall and maybe also Miller for the spot.

Hence why might be a good idea to lock him in or let him go sooner rather than later before all the good options get snatched up

Im thinking the same .
Another year even if it costs us around $400K
3 halves on approximately 1.2 million isn’t that outragous.

What half wouldn't want to play here? You'd have to think we're a fair chance of landing a good quality replacement. Just a matter of when

his bad games have been at fullback, he has been solid at 6 since he has been here
People seem to forget how well he went in 2018 for his first full year at 5/8

I'd be keeping him for another year, doubt anyone out there who's available could do a better job in attack and defense, only kicking

I think it’s more about if he would accept a 1 yr offer or wants a multi year deal.

what's the estimate on what Warriors paid for Metcalf - anyone?

It took a dramatic twist because the paper needed it to! The best rumours to report on are the ones you make up yourself! that way you know all the ins and outs. Check out our Rumour Mill thread, drama galore, so many dramatic twists and turns! Except sometimes the info is actually based on more than whatever random **** popped into a reporters mushy brain that morning.

The only thing that hasn't completely blown my socks of is the dumster depths "journalism" will go to get a click
Deadset these mongs would give Hollywood script writers a run for their money. Considering the state of modern movies I think it's a fair parallel

At this point if there is a used Kleenex for sale apparently the Dolphins are in the market for it because some bloke in Sydney blew his nose the other day

As for the last sentence from Buzz has anyone ever heard the term spinning the football in relation to Rugby League?
