The situation has taken a dramatic twist with a suggestion on Friday, Moylan may have attracted the eye of Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett.
The veteran coach is reportedly getting desperate in searching for players as the new franchise prepares to enter the NRL next year.
Channel 7’s Michelle Bishop told SEN she would not be surprised if Bennett swooped to trump any offer the Sharks were prepared to put to Moylan.

Some journo from an AFL channel says she wouldn't be surprised about something is a "dramatic twist".

Who reads this **** & thinks "I'm being informed"?

Happy to leave him off contract at the moment .

Yes “best” football for a while….bit of hunger for a contract.

One year contract max please.

(Wouldn’t mind Drinkwater)

Hardly a player youd want to get in a bidding war for.
I would, without hesitation.

Each week I get on the edge of my chair when Moylan floats both sides behind the play the ball / scrum, because Moylans footy brain sees weaknesses in the oppositions defensive lines that frankly, most players don’t see or are not willing to “break script“.

He ignites our attack so quickly & so often through a game.

I am not letting that rare commodity go, without tabling a reasonable offer.

Why would I when our spine (the band) is clicking like 1988, 1999 & 2016 - don’t break up the band Yoko.

As to Moylan “giving value” back to the club for standing by him with a horrror injury run; he is doing it.

He took a reported 250k, 12 moth contract here, rather than going to another club. Would Bird have down that, or a DCE - I doubt it.

Seems like an act from a decent bloke to me; and a creative 5/8 to boot.

He is reminding me more and more of an older Cliffy Lyons - lost a couple of yards, but applies his smarts to the advantage of his outside men.

Wow what a top bloke. Paid 850k for last few years, played like 50% of the time (reportedly not serious in his rehab) and hasnt played anywhere near that price tag.

Then nice enough to take 350k this year when no one else wanted him.

Cronulla should definitely get into a bidding war……not

300k 1 year extension is what I’d table. I still want to see more though. Would hold off negotiations until at least round 13

I can see Moylan getting an extension (would I prefer him stay no).

However people insinuating he has done Cronulla a massive favour staying here etc have got to be kidding….

He has though. Who would be in the 6 otherwise? Trindall most likely. Seeing how Nicho is playing (and Trindall, though he's be great if he could play 8 lots of 10 minutes in a row) I'm very thankful Moylan is doing so well and not making us run that halves pairing

He is doing well this year. However he is being paid suitably for it.

It’s not like he is playing out of the goodness of his heart.

Does club wear any blame?

Moylan came here to play 5/8 and got off to a good start at it before we moved him at short notice which quite possibly contributed to recurring soft tissue injuries.

We sign CNK or Papenhyuzen instead of SJ and never move Moylan and quite possibly never start the issue with his legs?

He spend his own money two off seasons ago to work on his running technique, how much evidence is there he isn’t serious about his rehab? Or at least, continues to be not serious about his rehab?

Question we need to ask ourselves is if we let Moylan go who becomes our 6 next year?

Out of the halves off contract next year I don’t think any would be an improvement on Moylans current form.

A 1 year deal on say $350k to $450k you are still getting an absolute bargain for a top tier half in the NRL (providing he stays on the park for majority of it) also if we don’t start negotiations now I could see a desperate club or Dolphins swoop in as the year goes on and offer him a nice little 2 year deal

Then if Trindall isn’t ready maybe Drinkwater for 2024 or who ever else is available, Burton?

I get that everyone on here only wants to offer him a 1 year deal but the fact is the Dolphins continue to miss out on their targets, and their desperation gets stronger so are more than likely going to offer Moylan a multi year deal.

So the real question is, Is the club prepared to offer a multi year deal? Cos that’s what it will take to retain him. Therefore, and apologies if anyone takes offence, but we need to accept that a 1 year deal is a pipe dream, consider a multi year deal or move on (me included).

I still think even a 2 year deal at that $350k-450k mark is getting a bargain for a NRL half of what he’s offering atm, especially to what’s available.

Would still give us room to move for a half in 2024 if we chose to.

Trindall is off contract for 2024 so will come down to if he’s the path we want to go or not. If he’s not, then we don’t re-sign him which will then put Moylan as depth for one year to our new half recruit.

Say our recruits Drinkwater on 3 years as our future, that’s probably not going to break our bank. So also having Moylan on say $400k? that’s borderline fair for a player in our squad who can come in to play halves, fullback or 14 through a season which would involve injuries and suspensions.

He hasn't played this many games successively for some time.

He is healthy.

He is doing now what we bought him for, remember the buzz when he arrived.

If you're the Dolphins, do you want Moylan? Or a Queenslander like Milford or Ash Taylor? You could almost argue that Milford has more upside.

Moylan was on the scrap heap last year, I think our offer was the best he could do if he wanted to stay in the NRL. Were any other clubs looking at him seriously or willing to take a chance on him? I don't think so.

Credit to him he's put the effort in and is playing well but without that Sharks contract his NRL career might have been over. now if he can remain injury free for the most part he could play another 3 seasons or so. it's worked out for everyone but we could have just as easily said thanks no thanks we ain't sticking with your and rolling the dice on you again.

Good for him Fitz saw enough in him to work him into in his plans

I like Mozza as a bloke but I am under no illusions he was doing us a favour - he knew the reality of his situation career wise

why does Milford have more upside? he has played for a Queensland team before and was mostly unremarkable

IMO Milfords problem has always been he's not fit enough. Get him fit and firing he's got upside. Plus he's 3 years younger then Moylan.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'd take him over Moylan today though.

fair enough on the age factor and I don't think Milford is a bad player. just has never been able to settle into a position or club properly and play consistently (after leaving the raiders anyway). but yea maybe fitness / attitude is a big part of the problem
