I believe so - he has been 'waived' by the 49ers and lost his roster spot. All players are able to try and find a starting spot somewhere else (picked up on waivers). If not, then the 49ers can continue to develop him on the practice squad or release him.

Pretty close. The waived players enter a draft, where the last placed team from last year gets the first pick, then the second placed and so on. They have 48 hours to sign players, who then end up either as free agents or playing for the Roosters.

As a free agent he could be resigned by the niners on a practice squad contract. If that happens, he could be promoted to the starting team in time for the next game to cover their 2014 Shark-esque injury run.

This is probably a dumb question but if he doesn't get picked up can he play for a college team?

Another question from the floor... If he gets picked up by another team does he have to be part of their playing rooster or can another team simply sign him to join their practise squad ?

This I'd like to know. It sounds to me that with the injuries it's probably in his best interest that he doesn't get picked up by someone else now?

Don't think so hb, you'd have to go to that college... There all young blokes... Side note got to go to the "rose bowl" 20years ago.... Insane experience considering it is only college ball.

I wonder if one of them might offer him a scholarship? Not sure exactly how it works?

There has been talk of bringing a bowl game to Australia next year, wouldn't be on of the really well known bowls but one of the 40-odd bowl games that occur.

On the upside... Great time to buy a Hayne jersey for a bargain.

Ah well - hes still in the game, they see something in him still.

To be fair, this was probably what was expected in the first place to let him develop. He performed better than expected and got a spot but (like the ball), he couldn't hold it.

Yep. Retired from the NFL to compete for Fiji in the olympic rugby 7's.

Good on him for giving it a go. Takes balls to go from one of the top players in one code, to a nobody in another, especially in your late 20's.

Nah good on him. Was it a failure? I dont think so. He made the cut last year n played.

He'll be in in the nrl, presumably the roosters next year. I highly doubt he goes to parra

I haven't read the article , but could he sign for the Roosters by June 30 with their cap space and do the Olympics too ?

I'd say the Olympics are just a fill-in for the rest of the year.

When are they? Aug/Sep

Go try and get a gold medal, a few weeks break, then rock up to Roosters pre season training in November
