I hope he fails so I don't have to listen to any more US commentators try to talk 'aussie'. Cringeworthy.

But in all seriousness, good on him-he is carving it up. Shows just how unskilled the NFL players are that a fend or a change of ball-carrying arm is mindblowing to them. If he nails all the set plays and the understanding of the game he will kill it in the big time, just by using his league skills. Good luck to him.

Read today that last year the 49ers punt return record was 23 yards. Hayne beat that on all three punt returns today.

He'll make it. If it's not with the 49ers it'll be with someone else.

You obviously don't understand NFL - nobody in the top rosters are "unskilled"

Yep. Its not lack of skill its that he has a skillset they arent training to defend.

He was one of the best at stepping players, finding holes or breaking tackles. Now he can do all that with the aid of blockers.

Really hope he makes it big, woulda taken a lot of balls to do what hes done.

There is a problem though...Hayne's not taking the easy option and just running out the sideline when he can. His NRL training is making him instinctively try to stay in the field and evade the defence.

If he doesn't learn to overcome that instinct, he's gonna get absolutely smashed by a massive 140kg defender - and find himself on a stretcher, feeling like he got hit by a Mack truck.

I hope it doesn't happen though. I love reading about what he's achieved so far.

yeah but he will only get smashed once and wake up to that. Or that will be trained out of him. Hes getting there, and i think its important to remember, that other than actual training, these 2 trial games are his first 2 ever games of the sport. Every other guy out there has played the game 100s of times

All of these posts tie in with my thinking.

I hear about him being unconventional taking kicks over his shoulder and fending and think thats every game at some stage in NRL. I know ****all about NFL really, but I've seen Hayne carve up a 13 man kick chase without his boys running obstruction - an NFL kick chase/defensive line coming in dribs and drabs through a maze of blockers has to be easier.

Whats unfortunate is I also read that turning his back on a kick and fending rather than dropping his pads into the defenders is something they reckon he'll need to work on. He's too unconventional. Seems a bit dumb to me that you get a guy playing outside the box and doing well to work to make him like everyone else.

Once again I know little about NFL but from the little 30sec bits of footage I seen I reckon once he is totally happy to use his blockers (gotta be hard to go from all your life not running behind your teammates to relying on that) he will relish that freedom and go pretty well.

I do think he was lucky one of the returns wasn't called back due to one of his blockers holding.

A fend or changing ball carrying arm isnt anything new to the nfl...

And you realise hayne isn't playing against opposition teams #1's right?
