By Mark Berry

WAKEFIELD Wildcats have confirmed that former Gold Coast Titans' prop James Stosic has joined the club.
As previously reported in the Wakefield Express, Stosic was expected to join the Wildcats during pre-season and today, the club has rubber-stamped a two-year deal with the 26-year-old Kiwi.

Stosic has played in the NRL for four years having made 50 appearances for Cronulla Sharks and the Titans before he was released by the Gold Coast club.

Speaking from Australia Stosic said: "I can't wait to get over to the UK and put some names to faces. I'm looking forward to starting training and to get along with the mix and get on with my career and my life.

Wildcats' head coach John Kear said: "I'm very excited about having James on board and I'm sure he will add greatly to the team."

WILDCATS SWOOP FOR STOSIC

Wakefield have signed James Stosic from the Gold Coast Titans on a two-year deal.

The prop forward, who made almost 50 appearances with Cronulla Sharks and the Titans over the last four years, will link up with his new Wildcats team-mates next month.

"I can't wait to get over to the UK and put some names to faces," Stosic said.

"I'm looking forward to starting training and to get along with the mix and get on with my career and my life."

Wakefield head coach John Kear added: "I'm very excited about having James on board and I'm sure he will add greatly to the team. He brings plenty of experience from the NRL and I know he can't wait to get over here and make a real impact within the team."

Wildcats sign Kiwi prop Stosic
10/11/2008

Wakefield Wildcats have confirmed the signing of New Zealand prop forward James Stosic from NRL side Gold Coast Titans.

Stosic has been linked with a move to a Super League club for several months, with the Wildcats consistently being named as his preferred destination.

And it has now been verified that Stosic, who is a four-year veteran of the NRL with the Titans and before that the Cronulla Sharks, will move to the Halliwell Jones Stadium on a two-year deal from December.

"I can't wait to get over to the UK and put some names to faces," the 26-year-old said.

"I'm looking forward to starting training and to get along with the mix and get on with my career and my life.

"Me, my wife and my three children were ready for a new challenge in our lives and a new opportunity; not only in my career but also a new opportunity in a different culture. The culture over in the UK is totally different.

"Coming from New Zealand to Sydney even, was totally different but we loved it so we're keen to do this. The more experiences you have in life the more you grow as a person - so, yeah, I'm really excited. I can't wait."

Stosic said he believes his game will be well suited to the style of play in Super League, which puts more emphasis on the front row than in the NRL.

"I like the style of play in the Super League. Everyone in the competition is big and aggressive and they use their props a lot so being a prop I should hopefully get involved in the game a lot more," he said.

"In our style on the Gold Coast; they play off their halves a lot and its always 'flashy' sort of moves, whereas in the UK they play a more hard-fought and robust game so I want to be a part of that; that's what I like and that's my style of football."

Wildcats head coach John Kear says he is "very excited" about introducing Stosic to the team for next season, and also revealed why the announcement of his signing had been put back.

"He brings plenty of experience from the NRL and I know he can't wait to get over here and make a real impact within the team," he said.

"However I would like to stress that he is in no way a replacement for Adam Watene.

"James signed for the club several weeks before Adam's sudden death and out of respect for Adam - who was highly regarded by his team-mates and everyone at the club - we have waited until now to release the signing."

Stosic hits out at Titans pay deal as he heads for UK
AARON LAWTON
Sunday, 16 November 2008

KIWI journeyman James Stosic, who last week signed a deal with Super League side Wakefield, has hit out at the "two-faced" Titans as he prepares to leave Australia.

The 27-year-old prop was told midway through the season there wasn't sufficient money under the salary cap to keep him on the Gold Coast.

He then hit some of the best form of his career and was subsequently offered a new deal by the club, albeit at a reduced salary.

Stosic says he seriously weighed up the offer before signing with Wakefield and admits recent media reports suggesting the Titans are willing to spend nearly $A3 million over five years to lure Storm star Cameron Smith to the Gold Coast have left him with a sour taste in his mouth.

"The Titans kept telling me they didn't have enough money under the salary cap to pay me much," Stosic told Sunday News last night.

"Michael Searle the CEO was quoted as saying that in newspapers over here and stuff like that.

"Then, all of a sudden, I find out last week they had offered or were planning to offer Cameron Smith a figure in the millions.

"That basically blows all this talk of having no money out of the water. I thought it was a bit two-faced to be honest."

Stosic, who has three young children, says he would have struggled to make ends meet if he'd accepted the two-year deal from the Titans.

"They offered me a two-year deal but they wanted me to take a pay cut next season which would have probably been too hard to live off and pay my mortgage, especially with three children," he said.

"They said they would make it up to me the year after.

"I also like the style of football they play over in the UK. It's more of a forward-orientated game.

"At the Titans, the whole game-plan is based around Scotty Prince.

"We did a lot of off-the-ball work and a lot of dummy runs.

"Hey, don't get me wrong it's all good and I learnt not to be such a selfish player. Then again, I didn't get the ball as much as I would have liked."

Stosic joined the Titans in 2007 from the Cronulla Sharks and says despite the recent experience he's still happy he moved to the Gold Coast.

"Am I annoyed? Yes and no," he said.

"I'm grateful that the club gave me a chance and there's no doubting I developed as a player, especially from the mental side of things.

"It does still annoy me a bit but I'm trying to focus on the positives.

"It's their loss not mine. I could have taken my game to the next level next year and gone up another notch.

"I've tried not to take it to heart too much. That's how this business works.

"I'm a straight up person and I was very upfront with the club. I expected the same in return and didn't get it.

"It's disappointing but I'm not going to cry about it.

"It was definitely a stressful year not knowing where the next pay packet was coming from."

Stosic and his young family will move to the UK next month and he says he's looking forward to the new challenge.

"I've got a few former team-mates over there in Matthew Petersen and Tevita Leo-Latu which makes the move even more exciting," he said.

"I can't wait now.

"I had to weigh up a few different options but in the end I made a decision with my wife and children in mind.

"As long as my family are happy then so am I."

Stosic feeling right at home
Prop travels to father's birthplace in attempts to earn European passport
Last updated: 21st January 2009

Wakefield new boy James Stosic is ready to put down roots in Yorkshire after something of a nomadic career Down Under.

The New Zealand-born prop, who signed a two-year deal with the Wildcats, arrived in the engage Super League from the Gold Coast Titans.

He has also played for Cronulla and Canberra in the NRL, as well as enjoying stints at Australian club sides Newton and Redcliffe.

After moving around so much Stosic is hoping to make an impression with his new employers in the hope of settling down in one place.

Stay

"I've played with a few teams and I've come over here and I would like to stay with one team if I can," he said.

"I've got a two-year contract but I feel I could play another five or six years and I'd like to stay here if possible.

"I'm a typical front rower. I normally get the ball first or second tackle so I'm not going to be throwing silly passes.

"Fans will see 100 per cent from me every time. I'm out to prove to people I'm worthy of my position and I'm out to try and keep my starting position all year."

In between training for the new campaign, Stosic has managed to squeeze n a visit to the Republic of Macedonia, his father's birthplace.

The 27-year-old caught up with long-lost relatives during his four-day trip to the capital Skopje as he began the process of obtaining a European passport.

Challenge

"It's been a bit of a challenge," he added. "It's a bit of a hard country to just go in there and say 'I want my passport'.

"My dad was born there so I'm half Macedonian and I'm definitely entitled to it but it's a bit of a long process.

"I've sourced all the stuff that I need. They want every document of your life - documents that you don't even think you've got - but I've got to get it.

"It's the way their country does it so I have to abide by their rules.

"Macedonia is not an EU country but it will still get me off the quota. That helps the club but most of all it helps myself because I'm not taking up a quota position."

From memory he took a swipe at Cronulla too when he left us. He was quoted as saying that he left Cronulla to play for a club that would give him more opportunity to play finals football - that was a laugh considering the Titans haven't made the finals yet!!!

You do feel for the guy though as he has a young family, but all the best to him in the UK. Let's hope he doesn't burn too many bridges over there!!

Wildcats wait on Stosic passport
19 Nov 2009

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed that their Australian prop forward James Stosic has still to complete his Macedonian passport arrangements.

The 28-year-old former Gold Coast Titans and Cronulla Sharks front rower has until the end of November to gain a Macedonian passport otherwise the Wildcats will have to release him from his contract at the Hearwell Stadium.

Stosic was signed for the 2009 season on the understanding that after the first year of his two-year deal that he had to have gained a Macedonian passport.

John Kear, the Wildcats Head Coach, said: “When James joined the club it was quite clear that he had to have a passport that would remove him from the existing quota limitations.

“So far that has not happened and if he doesn’t succeed by the end of the month we will have to release him.

“Our overseas quota positions are already filled by Darryl Millard, Ben Jeffries, Glenn Morrison, Shane Tronc and Sam Obst, so we do not have any more places available.

“There are no problems between the club and James as we both knew what was required for him to remain with the club.

“We would like to keep James but if he can’t get his passport then the matter is out of our hands.”

FOOTBALL CONFIDENTIAL

<EDITED>

RUGBY LEAGUE: Chris Walker isn't the only former Gold Coast Titan in danger of getting punted from the English Super League.

The final year of ex-Gold Coast prop James Stosic's contract with the Wakefield Wildcats is in danger of collapse because the big fella is yet to complete his Macedonian passport arrangements.

The 28-year-old, who left the Coast at the end of the 2008 season, has until the end of November to gain a Macedonian passport otherwise the Wildcats will have to release him.

Stosic was signed for the 2009 season on the understanding that after the first year of his two-year deal that he had to get the passport in order to be considered outside the overseas trained player quota.

Walker is also locked in a quota legal battle with Bradford Bulls over their decision not honour his contract and instead recruit Manly skipper Matt Orford as their final signing for 2010. -- LUKE TURGEON

I guess it's the same motivation as for every other 20 something these days. Go to the old dart, enjoy a working holiday and get off ya chops :drunk:drink::liquor::pill::sick

Stosic forced to leave Wildcats
13:36 - 30th, Nov 2009

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed that prop James Stosic has left the club after he was unable to ensure that he would be a non-overseas player next season.

The 28-year-old had hoped to see out the second year of his contract at Belle Vue, but that was dependent on him gaining a Macedonian passport, which he has been unable to do.

Wildcats head coach John Kear told the club's official website: "We'd like to thank James for his hard work on behalf of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and wish him well for the remainder of his career."

Stosic had earlier told the Wakefield Express: "It is definite that I will not be at the Wildcats next season. It's really frustrating because I am in the best pre-season shape of my career.

"It has been mega-stressful for me, my wife and my kids but I am trying to stay positive. I may have to return to Australia and I have to consider all my options."

Before moving to England, New Zealand-born Stosic had played in the ARL with Cronulla Sharks and Gold Coast Titans.

Former Wakefield Wildcats prop James Stosic secures Easts Tigers move
05 January 2010
By Nick Rigg

FORMER Wakefield Wildcats prop forward James Stosic has found a new club after securing a move to Australian side Easts Tigers.

Stosic was released from his two-year contract at the Hearwell Stadium after just one year following problems securing a Macedonian passport that would have removed him from the club's overseas quota.

Wakefield gave the New Zealand-born forward until the end of November to secure a Macedonian passport.

His second year at the Super League club was dependant on him being off the overseas quota, but failure to secure a passport saw his brief stint in the red, white and blue come to an end.

The 28-year-old made 18 appearances for John Kear's side, scoring one try along the way.

But he's returned to Australia, where he previously played for Gold Cost Titans and Cronulla Sharks, to play for Brisbane-based Easts Tigers to compete in the Queensland Cup competition.
