Agree slide. I think Joey was a better player however Lockyer is a way better total package and deserves it more. Joey's off field nonsense should preclude him from being an immortal.

Why should it? Did it change the way he played on the field? It's rubbish to think that people want to not make him the next immortal because of his off field dramas. It's a pretty common knowledge in certain circles what locky gets up to in his own time, its just that it hasnt hit the papers.

I think him admitting he was on drugs most of his career and then being a racist is enough for me personally to think he shouldn't be considered one.

I don't think he was easily one anyway so it's not a big deal for me.

Gallen is a long long long way off ever being considered an immortal. But it doesn't hurt that he's heading in right direction at 200km/h.

He's easily cemented himself as a Shark's immortal.

Joey Johns needs to be there. He is arguably the best player to ever play rugby league, Darren Lockyer is also another one who i would consider one of the best players to ever lace up a pair of boots.

Gallen has only just started in his 30s what Joey and Darren have been doing there whole career.

I know Sandman is trolling but Lamb deserves a mention as well.

I can't agree with Johns, considering he openly admitted take a substance during his career.

There is no way a drug addict should be an imortal, in front of[ Lamb or Mortimer] don't care how good he was.

Who cares what joey did off the field. It wasn't like he was taking steroids to make him stronger and give him a physical advantage. I'm sure lots of players back in the 60's, 70's and 80's were all smoking pot, it was just harder to get exposed back then. Fittler came out years ago in his biography about his pot smoking and noone seemed to care much about that? Johns was an amazing player on the field and that should be whats considered when they think about the next immortal.

Its an interesting one. I am of the opinion that being an immortal means more than just on field performance, it is the total package of being a footballer/role model.

In saying that I dont think pot is that bad as im sure other immortals have dabbled in it as well.

Do we retrospectively review the off-field lives of all the previous immortals?

There are two living "immortals" and one deceased that I can genuinely say that I am blessed to know.

Without a doubt, three of the greatest footballers ever.

I can assure you that none of them, under the harsh light of modern media focus, would ever be considered faultless off the field.

Well no obviously we don't.

Players today get so much more opportunities and benefits that previous players got, however with this comes extra responsibilities. One of them is to be squeaky clean off the field. A player's actions should be judged in the context of the era they played in. There should be no comparison across eras.

That goes for on field performance too actually.

Oh, and by the way, I would place Wayne Pearce higher on my list than Andrew Johns.

I'll always rate someone playing in the forwards higher than anyone in the halves or backline.

If you don't understand that you don't understand Rugby League.

In my game, forwards win matches... the backs by how much.

I don't think slater should be an immortal, his attitude is smug and arrogant, therefore not worthy of an immortal.

Gallen had a bad attitude years ago as well. And was branded a thug and grub by many. But has shown he has changed his ways and ask people in rugby league circles what they think of him now. I hated Slater with a passion for a long time, but love him or hate him, he is spectacular to watch.
