I see the new goalkeeper restrictions for penalties have already reared its head. Adrian was well off the line during the penalty he saved, Abraham should of been given a retake. They can’t do much about it now but it’ll be interesting how this rule is handled going forward.

Matt can i point something out - the foot on the line rule is only introduced into the premier league

This was a uefa comp, they dont have that rule

And it shouldnt have gone to pennos anyway

Been informed that Roberto Rosetti, UEFA Chief Refereeing Officer, briefed before the Super Cup that goalkeepers will only be penalised by VAR for leaving line if it's a blatant and clear violation of new law

Actually just found that, uefa and VAR cleared it

I’ve read it’s a UEFA rule as well. This is the wording I found:

Penalties: Keepers must have at least one foot on the line when a kick is taken, cannot feign movement beforehand, stand behind the line or touch the frame of the goal, otherwise the penalty will be retaken.

How do you define clear and blatant? It’s clear his feet are off the line. Seems like a dangerous grey area to me, unless I’m missing a major detail here?

I swear I’m not just trying to take a **** on Liverpool here. I’ve taken a big interest in how this new rule goes because I don’t want it going worldwide as it completely takes a **** on goalkeepers who are already at a disadvantage in penalties.

Personally think keepers should be allowed to move the moment the whistle is blown

I agree. I hate the new rule and hope it does t find its way down here. I’ll miss Redders Wiggles routine if that happens.
