I can't watch the video on my mobile, is he a kiwi? Could be a son of former all black and guy I know Norman Berryman

He's an islander of some sort so he probably is, couldn't imagine that last name being too common haha.

He's 184cm and 91 kg. from Hamilton in NZ. Maori. 22. I read a quote where he said his preferred position was fullback, but he can play anywhere in the back line.

Looks like even with injuries we won't be using a 'makeshift' fullback next year.

Another player who dominated qld cup was Tim Smith. He lefts easts for dead to come to us and how well did that work out haha.

Tim Smith didn't dominate Qld Cup. He played one game in which he set up 4 tries but let in 3 with awful defense and his team nearly got beaten in the game.

Berryman is a good finisher, but he's on a team where he gets plenty of opportunity to finish. He may not be a success in the NRL, but the Qld Cup is a higher quality comp than either NSW Cup or Toyota Cup, so if he is one of the better wingers running around he is probably at least as good as our second-stringers.

Berryman definately looks good and has a couple of important attributes that you can't coach i.e. speed and footwork. Plus he looks to have a bit of football nous and a decent pair of hands. Its easy to say 'its only Qld cup, he won't be able to do those things in the NRL', but also he hasn't been subjected to the intensity and amount of training he will get in the NRL. Hopefully this allows him to make the step up.

do you know what the reason for that was??

He was picked up by them this year as an insurance policy after Yow Yeh, Reed, Hodges and Hoffman were all injured for extended times during the season. From memory they signed 2 blokes from the Q Cup as backup for the remainder of the season. Berryman was one.

Sounds like we might have got a good one. Is wing his best position?

Fullback most likely. His great support play and footy brain shines in that position. But he is more than capable on the wing and in the centres. Transistions well to those positions because he has all the intangables in his game. Just a matter of experience and time developing him IMO.

Could also be onto another Ryan Tongia though.
