Worked at the golf club a handful of years ago. It was usually pretty ****ing dead - hope things have changed dramatically.

I think their aim is to get to $1 million per year profit. The Sharks management team has been "consulting" there for the past couple of months and said there has been a big improvement in revenue even in that time.

I haven't been to Kareela much. I tend to agree about middle of nowhere, but last night the place was busy (even excluding the Sharks members in the meeting room). And there does seem plenty of room for improvement there still, just in making the food etc more efficient, maybe in terms of the functions as well.

Dino Mezzatesta was giving a lot of credit to the leagues club boss, Elie Bassil, so hopefully we're on a good thing there.

A lot of it does come down to pokies (unfortunately), and having the two clubs also means we get extra new pokies entitlement each year, which can be used at either club.

I do love the idea of having a Sharks presence in that part of the Shire, I wish it was a bit more central like Sutherland, but maybe one day that will be next! I do think we can do a better job at Kareela than Sporties, just given the local links.

Yeah a central location in Sutho or even Engadine or Menai would be good. But I'm sure that wouldn't come cheap.

I'm a bit unsure about this whole thing. I'm not a golfer and haven't been to this club (at least recently) so I don't really have a feel for it at all. I suppose I'll try to check it out during the main club closure. But **** it's out of the way.

I don’t get this in the middle of nowhere talk.

Isn’t Kareela just off the Princes Highway?

Wouldn’t more cars pass that location daily, then how many would pass Woolooware?

I'm skeptical of us ever becoming a 'powerhouse club' - not the first time we have heard that line. keeping the same CEO for more than 12 months would be a good start.

But if this golf club acquisition makes us more financially viable and adds a bit of a safety net revenue wise then obviously it's a good step in the right direction

Kareela may be as far from a train station as you can get east of the Woronora Bridge.

I find this confusing. Engadine and Menai are both on the outskirts of the shire.

Engadine yes, but Menai is surrounded by a **** load of suburbs and people. I'd be a lot more confident if we'd bought Club Menai!

Yes, they are isolated but they have pretty decent population bases to service a hypothetical club in the middle of these centres. It's mainly to service the locals who prefer to stay local. Not necessarily a huge clubs to attract outsiders.

I'd just rather a club that was close to other things (ie a town centre). It's probably better for transport and foot traffic.
