my point in all of this is that we should get a combined ticket of good people that will get on with the job and get ourselves out of the headlines. A mix of the current plus a couple of others that have relevant experience.

the rest of the glory hunters should back out of their nominations and allow for a united board to be elected.

Why Kerr and Tiernan?

Not having a go, just curious. The acheivements of Irvine and Douglas are more well known.

Ok...

This is what I think is the final list:
  • Peter Cobb
  • Greg McAleer
  • David Boldeman
  • Peter O'Driscoll
  • Mark McGaw
  • Dane Sorenson
  • Glenn Coleman
  • Craig Douglas
  • Greg Holland
  • Phil Tiernan
  • Peter Kerr
  • Matthew Hartley
  • Damian Irvine
  • Glenn Gorick
  • Mark Goodwin
  • Dino Mezzatesta
  • Damian Keogh
  • Darren McConnell
  • John Dunphy
  • Paul O'Neile
  • Paul McCarthy
  • Kevin Dwyer
  • Andrew Boldeman
  • Craig Airey
From what I understand, the "Rebel Ticket" has put up Dino Mezzatesta as their nomination for Chairman - NOT Damian Keogh as was reported by Phil Rothfield at The Daily Telegraph. What??? Rothfield reporting inaccurately??? No... Never!!!

As it turns out, Dino is not eligible to contest the position of Chairman as he is not a Football Club member with voting rights.

Consequently, that means Glenn Coleman will be returned unchallenged as the new Chairman as no eligible nominations to contest that position were received by the cut off date.

What happens now is that the ballot will take place to elect the 8 remaining Directors.

Of those remaining positions, at least 4 Directors MUST be a
Football Club member with voting rights.

Seriously... does this not highlight the fact that people that were interested in running this rebel ticket have only been interested OF LATE?

It somewhat strikes of an opportunistic nature... Surely they would have done their research before nominating an ineligible person as their chairman?

I heard an interesting comment / observation from an associate of mine today...

If the ARLC and the NRL were truly concerned with the Board at the Sharks they would have stepped in to resolve the issue.

What they have offered however is the resources and financial support so that the Board can continue to work through the challenges the Club faces.

Does that sound like the actions of an organisation that is disquieted, distrusting and ill-at-ease with the current Sharks Board?

I'd imagine that the ARLC and the NRL would be somewhat concerned about the outcomes of the current Board election.

In fact, Bruno Cullen was pretty straight shooting about the issue.

Cullen optimistic about Sharks future
By Brad Forrest March 22, 2013, 5:30 a.m.

BRUNO Cullen believes Cronulla Sharks can rebuild on the back of an improved club business model and a successful NRL team this season, despite the cloud hanging over the club in the wake of drug allegations.

The Sharks interim chief executive and former Brisbane Broncos chief remains optimistic.

He revealed the Sharks had budgeted for a profit this year (about $1.4 million), without any funding assistance from the leagues club.

With the ASADA doping controversy and the club's need to fill the positions of chief executive officer and football manager, those budgets will have to be revised.

In a candid interview, the man who was involved with the Broncos from 1989 and was their chief executive officer in 2003-2010 — during which time the Broncos maintained their perfect run of finals appearances until that last season — spoke openly about the road ahead for the Sharks.

The Sharks' board asked the NRL to call the semi-retired Cullen in to act as a troubleshooter after head coach Shane Flanagan was stood down and four other officials were sacked for failing to inform the board about several matters, including alleged doping practices at the club in 2011.

That publicity caused a furore and also forced club chairman Damian Irvine to stand down, replaced by former Sharks first-grader, Glenn Coleman.

"Financially. the club is quite healthy and was on track towards a nice surplus," said Cullen who was sitting with new NRL chief executive David Smith and watching the Sharks-Rabbitohs clash before congratulating the Sharks players.

'Rebuild confidence'

"In fact, the planets were aligned for the Sharks in 2013, with a wonderful playing roster, the club's cash flow going well again and the [$300m] property development approved with projected revenues of between $35-$45 million over the next eight years," he said.

"This drugs issue has severely impacted on our sponsorship and so we will need to fill the big three: stadium, jumper and sleeve [sponsors].

"But we have a good side and we can rebuild confidence in the business community, even if takes half a year."

Cullen said the Sharks didn't need extra finances but was appreciative of the NRL's assistance with "human resources" to help reorganise the club during its present plight.

"We did have a few people in the club doing more than one job," he said.

"But in a little over a week I have been impressed with the attitude of the staff ... they are real footy people all wanting to see the Sharks go well."

Cullen said he would work with the Sharks until they found a permanent CEO and filled the key position of football general manager, with the future of Sharks coach Shane Flanagan apparently imminent.

"I've told the board that I am prepared to work in both Brisbane and Sydney helping the Sharks, while also attending board meetings," said Cullen, who sits on four different company boards in Brisbane and is chairman of two.

Cullen said he had promised the Sharks players "ongoing assistance" in regards to the ASADA investigation, with up to 14 players facing bans from six months to two years if found guilty of taking banned substances.

"It can take a toll emotionally and psychologically," he said. "The public perception of ASADA's processes is that players are being treated as guilty, rather than innocent until proven guilty, like in every court of law.

"But we know they [ASADA] have a job to do ... and, hopefully, this will not drag out too long."

Cullen said his only other big concern was the "timing" of the Cronulla board of directors elections ahead of the annual general meeting next month.

"I'm hoping that whatever the board looks like next month, all the work we put in place [business model] will be retained. Otherwise, we've wasted a lot of time and effort," he said.

Can anyone tell the truth? The article states that Cullen was called into the club as a troubleshooter after the stand down and sackings, however Bruno himself stated that he was called in to assist prior to the drugs investigation.

So what IS the truth?

I am happy with Coleman as Chair. What a **** up by 'the ticket'.

Coleman had the balls to front the players on that infamous Friday afternoon. I neglected him in my list of current directors who should remain involved, I'm really happy that he looks like continuing. Why? Because HE was chosen by the current board to firstly fill a casual vacancy, and secondly to become Chair in a very difficult time.

Someone asked why Kerr and Tiernan? Kerr is experienced in sports governance at an international level, and while he's copped flak for being overly cautious in the ASADA matter, I think his fears may prove to be well founded.

Tiernan would be number 5 of my five preferred incumbents to continue. He just strikes me as a straight talker, not interested in headlines or limelight, a quiet achiever who would be a good all round director.

What will be critical in this process is choosing who NOT to vote for.

4 years ago 'another forum' (not CSSC) actively encouraged voters to leave Paul Tubridy and one other off their ballots. That targeted 'exclusion' was successful, whereas simply promoting the guys you like will not ensure they make it. You've got to get a groundswell of voter intent to 'bundle' your picks with the best of the rest, with a strong message to leave some particular candidates out. That CAN be done on merit.

Hahaha oh dear.

Glad you said it.

I will never forget his infamous dummy-spit and dramatic walkout of the CSSC AGM a few years back when he wasn't elected as CSSC VP.

And he wants to be seriously considered for the main game?

FMD.

Sorry Boldo but in the fair dinkum department...

Shark, I haven't looked back through this tread, so I apologise if you have already stated this, but would you encourage members to vote for DI?

I would have him back in a heart beat. Just interested in your thoughts.

I'm actually really torn. It'd be bloody hard to watch someone else take on a role you made your own for 4 years, but if it's Coleman who is taking on the Chair I think DI would be at ease with that.

From a Footy point of view I think DI would probably be better off simply enjoying the game as a regular punter for a few years. But, this whole thing is about more than just footy.

So, to answer your question, I think that for the successful completion of the propert development we simply MUST ensure Irvine AND Douglas are returned. It's a must. They are both team players and would work well with whoever else is elected. I also think they'd prefer to leave the footy stuff to newcomers, and focus their energy on guiding a project they have both put their hearts and souls into for 4 very long, tiring years.

They deserve that opportunity, if nothing else.

As stated, if Kerr & Tiernan can get back on then that'd be good too, but they're not as essential as Damian & Ctaig.

What's his credentials Gando?

Matthew Hartley is a long time proud cronulla sharks supporter.
He is a corporate sponsor in the ET stand. A very successful business owner In the Sutherland shire. I just think with His youth, business skills would be a great addition the board.

Just because your a ex sportsperson doesn't make you
A automatic choice for the board.

And NO I'm not related to him.

I still feel sick thinking about what has happened to DI.

I'm not about blaming any person, organisation or the board, but ffs...

This guy did so much for us, for free, and we let him resign without any appropriate fanfare or thanks...

I'm proud to know the guy anyway.
