Remember, voting is OPEN now people!

Many members are not fully aware that the vote for the BOARD and the vote on the special resolution relating to the development are two different polls.

Ok folks, here is the lay of the land...

Peter Gow has put out an opposition ticket as has Downy & Holland.

-------------------------------------------
Peter Gow's (Dane Sorensen's) ticket:

Downy
Douglas
Surace
Ward
Walker
Tiernan
Barnett
Sorensen
-------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------
Chris Downy's ticket:

Kerr
Downy
Douglas
Surace
Ward
Walker
Barnett
Holland
-------------------------------------------

I have serious issues with the way Peter Gow is putting forth a ticket of his endorsed candidates.

It amuses (and horrifies me) that the gist of the "Sorensen" ticket pays more heed to Peter Gow than it does to the actual Board candidates.

If Peter wants to run for a position on the Board then all well and good. However, what we have here is a puppeteer's endorsement.

NO THANKS!

The Downy / Holland ticket is the "Pollies First" ticket and I've made my thoughts on politicians on board very clear.

Ask yourself... is there any politician that you actually TRUST?

They're all just a bunch of two-face, self-interested opportunists.

NO THANKS!

I have looked at all the candidates and have studied the 2011 Election Candidate Booklet very closely and done a lot of my own research and the conclusion I have come with is that the Chairman's Ticket is the way to go.

 Peter Henry Kerr
 Peter O'Driscoll
 Christopher John Downy
 Craig Allan Douglas
 Ricky Surace
 Keith Andrew Ward
 Paul John Walker
 Phillip Andrew Tiernan
 James Barnett
 Dane Sorensen
 Gregory Gordon Holland
 Jonathon Paul Docking

Get there and vote folks!

Are you surprised that Peter Gow got involved without running for a spot himself?

I'm confused by that...

I agree Fitz.

I know what Holland has been up to in the past two years, so he was always going to be a NO from me, as was his mate Downy, who had a less-than-illustrious career as an actual politician, so I don't hold much faith that he'd come up with the goods in this role.

O'Driscoll is a lovely fella but would offer nothing at all at the board table, aside from representing a supporter's view. And, let's face it, the Chairman has that angle all sewn up and could fight with the strength of 1000 fans if he ever needed to.

Sorenson is the only bloke I WON'T be voting for that I actually feel for. I would love him to be there in any other year, but two things stop me voting for him this time around:

1. Docking out-points him as the 'footy player' candidate on a number of levels;
2. Sorenson hasn't learned to stand up to Peter Gow yet, and he can't see that he's being used. Gow has tried this on before in other elections, I love the bloke but as Fitz said, he should stand himself if he wants to!

I have reservations about giving Jim Barnett another term, but I am reasonably confident he would be prepared to vacate his seat at the table should a particular skill set be needed and the board sought to appoint a director for the remainder of the term. He's a safe pair of hands for the moment and he has the trust of the chair. Hence he stays on my ballot paper.

Shark,

My greatest concern about all of this is complacency in the voting membership. People have to take this vote seriously.

Our Club is hamstrung by its debt commitments - even to the extent that the St George Bank is stipulating the guarantees that need to be met and will be voted on by the members at the AGM.

Given that the Club is probably in a position that every big decision has to be run by the St George Bank, you'd have to think that to an extent that if the "wrong" Board is put into place then we may face more hurdles.

I have no evidence to suggest this or otherwise, nor am I trying to institute a scare campaign, however I would imagine that the Chairman's ticket is the one that the bank is looking to have in place to maintain its confidence that we can meet our financial obligations.

In a nutshell, that's pretty much it.

The bank would probably be OK with the result if, for example, Sorensen went in instead of Docking, or O'Driscoll somehow bumps out Barnett.

I believe Holland has been the destabilising element. If he is returned, I am sure the bank will be nervous.

Cronulla director to exit amid deal claims

Cronulla director to exit amid deal claims
Sydney Morning Herald
Chris Barrett
August 18, 2011

A CRONULLA director lost his place on the board's re-election ticket after being accused of using his position at the club to try and win a $300,000 contract for his consultancy firm.

Greg Holland, a board member since 2007, is not on the ticket of chairman Damian Irvine in the Cronulla board election, which began yesterday.

His omission came after the firm Statecraft, where he is a director, attempted to land the public relations contract for the redevelopment project next to Toyota Stadium allegedly without the knowledge of the Sharks board. The prospective deal was worth about $15,000 a month over two years to Holland's company, which missed out after a tendering process.

It is alleged Holland and colleagues from Statecraft met with the Sharks' property consortium partners, Bluestone, in December to pitch for the contract. Irvine claims this was done behind Cronulla's back, with fellow board members only told about the meeting by Holland in an email sent nearly a month later.

''I've explained to Greg directly the reasons that I didn't endorse him to go forward. Our views on conflict of interest obviously differ,'' Irvine said.

''We were only informed in mid-January that the meeting and the pitch had taken place. The approach didn't sit well with us because we take very seriously the integrity of our processes.''

Holland confirmed yesterday he had met with Bluestone managing director Ben Fairfax last December, but claimed he told Sharks board members immediately afterwards of his firm's approach and subsequently withdrawn from further discussions.

''I wrote an email to the board saying a company I worked for had an interest in getting the public relations and community relations service and 'I am now declaring that conflict of interest','' Holland said.

''I had no involvement from that point on.''

So by your own admission Mr Holland, you declared the conflict of interest after the event!

I hate to say "I told you so" but...

This sort of thing is EXACTLY why it's a NO to the Downy & Holland ticket.

We don't need people who are looking to get their snout in the trough. We want people with the best interest's of the Sharks at heart. Sorry Greg, you've blown it, I'm afraid.

Big word I know but is that not some sort of corruption? He's basically admitted he (his company) made the approach before he brought it up to the Board.

In the very least it's disgustingly poor corporate governance and embarrassingly amateurish behaviour.

It is very much the type of behaviour developers have shown when running for Councils. Nothing but self serving and inappropriate.

Just got back from voting at the leagues club.
Dane Sorensen was standing out the front as you drive in handing out his how to vote card.

And a A4 piece of paper with Peter Gows recommendations for Dane Sorensen.

Quite a few people were there voting.
