  • Sponsorship at very high level, and Kareela trading very well, was due to make 1.1 million profit last year until Covid hit (was losing 500K before acquisition). New leagues club at Woolooware forecast to make ~2-3 million profit per year. Confirmed no other income streams from development.
Does this mean that there a no other income streams or none yet? I thought the whole idea of the shopping complex was to gain revenue from retail rentals or something along those lines?

Not a particularly controversial meeting, and a fairly small turnout, I guess due to Shane Warne memorial. Main notes:
  • Whole development precinct due to be complete in mid-2023 (Covid and weather have delayed it to then)
  • Likely getting a loan for the leagues club fitout, and using the money in the bank for investment/acquisitions (the two amounts are roughly equivalent, but finance cheap due to low interest rates). Bank very positive about club's future.
  • Coffs Harbour club discussions still in progress, fair way to go (my interpretation was that this isn't seen as the only option in Coffs)
  • Centre of Excellence/Stadium grant situation looking positive

  • Aiming to fix at least some of the seat numbers for Friday night's game
  • Summertime Bar not coming back on the ground floor (not sure if that includes all the bar area under Peter Burns Stand...)
  • Crowds/attendance still critical to football club's future
  • Barry Russell voted in as a life member
Always the same old faces at these meetings, I recommend anyone who's interested to go along, any leagues club member can go and listen/ask questions (within reason/time limits), and vote on most of the stuff, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions privately if needed. I think the old guard would appreciate seeing the next generation there and involved. We are very lucky to be a member-owned club and this is “democracy manifest” so to speak 🙂
Would have gone but couldn’t miss the Warnie Memorial

Thanks for the summary mate

We originally had a share in the retail (maybe 20%?), but that was sold off years ago for a lump sum of somewhere around 7 -8million from memory. Which I think was a fair decision, it’s not like we had a controlling interest in it, and it’s not our specialty. The money essentially would have covered the cost of Kareela with some left over.

Also mentioned we will be switching to Classic Sportswear next year, mainly to help manage stock levels easier as they are based at Kirrawee (Dynasty in NZ). And mentioned the difficulties this year with merchandise and covid/shipping/containers.

Thanks for the updates SF, much appreciated.

Overall seems very positive, maybe it's not the cash cow some were expecting or were hoping but it's given us something we haven't had in a while. Financial stability and a future to look forward too. I'll absolutely take that, and if we can't compete against the top 5 so be it.

I think the funds for the COE and stadium upgrades will be huge. Being able to stay at Shark park at a refurbished ground, right next to a brand new leagues club.

The playing group will have a state of the art COE to call home. We'll be on a level playing field with the other teams and will only aid in recruitment and retention.

This relationship with Coffs Harbour could be fruitful too, owning a club but also playing a few games a year there. Might even do training camps up there, tap into potential juniors too.

As mentioned by Dino at last night's meeting the Sharks are community minded & willing to allow other sports access to its facilities particularly when the other sport has an issue.

This announcement has just been released by Wellington Phoenix -

The Wellington Phoenix have finalised a venue little over 48 hours out from Saturday’s Isuzu UTE A-League match against Melbourne City.

The Phoenix will ‘host’ the reigning A-League champions at PointsBet Stadium, home of the Cronulla Sharks.

The Sharks have come to the club’s aid, with suitable venues in New South Wales at a premium now the NRL, AFL and Super Rugby seasons are underway.

Due to a lack of available security personnel because of the late confirmation of the venue the match will be closed to fans, other than family and friends.

The match will kick-off at 4:35pm AEDT (6:35pm NZT).

Shouldn't be an issue with beer lines.

Thanks mate.
though would be interesting to see what the COE would end up like. Though the COE has been floating around for years now.

Yeah Dino said they have been really happy with the quality, it's just the stock issues lately.
