Spot on MB. You are 100% right about the face to face contact.

not for a position like this, it definitely needs to be a split

you would need to review a CV, achievements, education, complete background ect

not just he is a good bloke and presents well

i am more than happy to give him a go, after all we hired a harvey norman sales rep last time, but **** me, the guy is in charge of a company with 14 staff

there are better candidates out there, probably was the cheaper option

Mate I agree, I certainly didn’t mean you shouldn’t do everything else.

By the look of his information from the website, he does bring An outsider approach which we do sorely need. Looks to have some understanding of the hospitality area, which is another bonus for game and the club in relation to food beverage. Though what I like to know how much involvement /contact he has had with government, as it could be beneficial to bring in the govt $ For upgrades to stadium.
Shame we sold off our share to stage 4 (hotel and shopping centre) as he could have got us some income and good deal with the hotel coming in.

As we all know can’t judge a book by its cover

Yes, but..

Face to face contact, and I hate to say it, but the 'vibe' a candidate gives you is very important to me at least.

About two months ago I was hiring a new commercial manager and the guy with the MBA, perfect resume (and the board's tick of approval) gave me a really flat persona and used the phrase 'company man' 6 or 7 times. Drove me bananas with unnecessary and verbose language consistently throughout all interviews.

2nd in line was a B.Comm dropout who studied the position like the back of his hard, had 15 years experience, 5 or more senior references and was affable and humble to deal with over 3 interviews. Excited for growth and whatnot.

Candidate 1 - What is the company going to give me?
Candidate 2 - I have 'x' to give the company! Please take my suggestions, numbers etc here in this document before I go

15k remuneration difference in offers.

Anyway just my two cents, and yes I realise I am going off on a different tangent here.

Oops. Left that part out.

Yes - went with #2

+ 5% GP within 2 (maybe 3 now) months. Honest, sustainable growth which is rare for my industry.

Also made my life a hell of a lot easier to be honest.

Anyway....

All the best to Richard moving forward.

Just had a listen to the Dino interview where he explained the CEO's duties, and the new man seems to fit most of the criteria with little or no involvement in football operations.

The search goes on for a football operations manager.

A couple of articles have come up saying Tim Sheens has rejected our offer to become the new GM of football. We’re apparently now looking at former Titans head of football Phil Moss.

Great track record, why wouldn't we want him.

[h=1]Tim Sheens won’t be Cronulla Sharks next general manager[/h]DAVID RICCIOTHE DAILY TELEGRAPH APRIL 17, 2019
Tim Sheens has missed out on an interview with the Cronulla Sharks as they look to appoint the “final piece” of their leadership makeover.
Commencing interviews for a new general manager of football this week, the Sharks had been linked to Sheens, the former four-time premiership-winning coach.
However, The Daily Telegraph has learned Sheens has failed to make the short-list of candidates with the club focused on appointing an experienced head of football similar to that of Frank Ponissi at the Melbourne Storm, Peter Parr at the North Queensland Cowboys or Shane Richardson at South Sydney.
The role includes a vast understanding of salary cap and contracts, recruitment and retention, elite pathway programs, player discipline and who can offer support to Cronulla head coach John Morris.
Gold Coast Titans head of football Phil Moss, NSWRL chief operations officer Stuart Clark and RLPA operations manager Paul Massey have all been linked to the Sharks.
The appointment of a new head of football for Cronulla is paramount to the club’s necessary governance overhaul in the wake of a disastrous 2018 which included mass-salary cap fines, sponsorship upheaval and the resignation of grand final winning coach Shane Flanagan
Following the appointment of Morris in January, the Sharks have elected a new board of directors, accrued long-term sponsors, while last week the club appointed Richard Munro as CEO, replacing Barry Russell.
Morris described the appointment of the new head of football as critical to the club’s success.
“The way I view that head of football role is that there’s a cohesive relationship with the head coach and the club’s board and administration,’’ Morris said.
“It’s a vast role that oversees a lot of key areas of the football department which then allows me to go out and coach the NRL team with an acute focus.
“I look forward to working with who the board believes is the right person for the job.’’
While the Sharks are slowly getting their house in order off the field, it’s at PointsBet Stadium against Penrith which becomes the immediate focus.
Both the Sharks and Panthers are desperate for victories after inconsistent starts to the 2019 season.
Penrith are attempting to avoid back-to-back losses, while Cronulla will need to snap a two-game losing run.

In a major boost for the Sharks, experienced forward leaders Andrew Fifita (hamstring) and captain Paul Gallen (ribs) are expected to play.
“He (Fifita) got through most of the session,” Sharks coach John Morris said.
“We’re pretty confident he’ll take the field, we just need to make an educated call in the morning.
“Both teams obviously want to get these two points on offer.
“These games between Sharks and Panthers are always big games and for some reason they always go down to the wire.

The search continues
Cronulla are getting no closer to appointing their general manager of football.

There are still at least five men in contention, headed by the Gold Coast Titans head of football operations, Phil Moss.

But the field is a diverse one, including former Test cricketer and NSWRL chief operations officer Stuart Clark, Players Association operations manager Paul Massey, as well as former Sharks stars Adam Dykes and Phil Bailey.

Not convinced Dykes or Bailey have the necessary experience.
