Yeh the hip drop penalty has become a farce and it stated with the McInnes one early in the year. The classic hip drop is so obvious because the players use their own weight the drop down when tackling.

I can't remember the last time a player from any club actually got suspended for this type tackle. What makes it worse is that the bunker is making these calls after watching a few times.
We've got to a place where if someone gets hurt someone must be at fault and pay for it. Nothing can just be an accident now.

They're slowly getting closer to what they want the game to look like. At least the people that watch SOO and the GF will be happy, that's the main thing.

It’s footy fans in general mate. The player who has 3 big runs and one big hit every game will always be seen by the masses as being “better” than the player who has 10 solid runs and 40 tackles.

Imo you need both players in the team - but if I can only have one of them I would take the latter.
Well, how did that saying go? Attack wins games, defence wins championships.

I don't mind them saying if you're a defender, you have a duty of care to protect that other players head... but we're way beyond that now. A guy can trip over and gets hit in the head, even through his head is knee high and it's a penalty.

Not to mention if you have the ball, you can pretty much do what you want. Imagine what charge Kaufisi would cop if he was the defender and Walker had the ball.

The players know most high contact is incidental, accidental & unavoidable.

The dumb thing is some of the worst knockouts you see are guys going low as tacklers and collecting a knee or hip so policing mediocre high contacts out of the game doesn't even fix the issue.

I do think what Kaufusi did was 100% intentional and he has a track record of forearms but will be interesting to see if he can beat it at judiciary.
It's basically just his word that it was an accident vs them deciding either it was intentional, or at least an avoidable accident.

To a point, in my day it was up to you when running the ball to protect yourself (as best you could).

So true. I got spear tackled once. David Manson was the ref. I got picked up by 3 players. turned upside down so I was perfectly vertical, and dropped on my head. He said it was no penalty because I had time to get my hands out to stop my fall 😂

I was 14 iirc.
Yes, but that is something you couldn't possibly protect yourself from haha.

Side note - Dave's brother Doug refereed Masters up here when I was still running around late 90s.

Not having a go at Trindall at all (I hope he turns into our greatest ever half) but surely the experiment of him playing 20 mins in the middle needs to stop.

Not that he done anything wrong last week but surely we are better off have another forward on the bench.

Between Brailey Mcinnes and Graham, we can manage if one of our halves go off.

I think we are more at risk week to week not having 4 forwards on the bench than if a half goes off and we need to 'make do' for half a game or so.

I agree with this, but I think this will happen if we are full strength.

8.BHU
9. Brailey
10. Toby;
11. Nikora
12. Graham
13. Finucane

14 McInness
15. Williams
16. Wilton/Tolman
17. Tolman/Hunt/FIfita

It becomes hard to fit Trindall in when we are full strength.

Whereas Fitz cleary thinks an injury to 1,6,7 in opening half is the worst case scenario and wants spine cover.
Knows McInnes, Finucane, Tolman, Rudolf and Graham can all do big minutes if needed.
