First of all, sorry if there is already a thread for this, had a quick look but didn't see one.

I was wondering if you guys really think Tim Smith is better than SFP? In my eyes he has more raw talent and tricks up his sleeve, but that this is accompanied by more errors and weaker defense. It also seems to me that SFP had the better long range kicking game.

I understand why Smith is there as he probably does add a bit more spark, but I still think Porter was pretty hard done by. After all he hasn't even had a full season in 1st grade, and while we narrowly avoided the spoon, the team seemed more competitive last year. + Porter is a local boy and a loyal player as we saw when he played in Rd 1 following the death of his sister. The club and the media both talked up his loyalty, but the club must look bad by not returning that loyalty to him.

I don't necessarily think SFP is a better option than Smith, just want to see what you all think. Also, does Smith have a good nickname yet? Cause SFP is the greatest.

yes tim smith is better the SFP

in smiths first game with us we saw what he was capable of, then as he has spent more training sessions with us, it looks like alot of the stuff he is capable of is getting 'trained' out of him

we need to scrap the tactics book and let the boys go out and throw it around

Should be a poll for this.

For me- Smith every time. Way more vision, creativity, footwork and a better organiser. has class and more time with the ball. Defensive liability, but could be hidden better.

It's funny, you know. Just today I was having a look at some of the stat's for our players so far this season. Porter actually has a higher average from the two games of NRL he played this year than Smith has so far, something to think about...

I'm not making any conclusions at this stage, I'm happy to let Smith find his feet and hope he comes good but at this stage, he is no wonder cure.

ive gotta agree with hitman, SFP goes well every week, where smith is hot and cold with form. plus porter is better in defence, i know that jennings is good but that was a porr attempt at tackling him off that scrum? i just think porter wqould be better

That's a tuff one.

I would lean towards Scotty, he has proven what he is capable of doing.
Great in general play and has got a wonder boot for kicking.

I not taking anything away from Tim

smiths defence has been woeful, thats where we miss porter in the halves, as of smiths passing and kicking his still gotta long way to go and even he would admit that

Smith is ordinary. Peach if you watch his first game for us again you will realise that he was very average. You really have no idea about the game mate. I'll say it again, he has no running game and we will continue to be an average football team until we find a halfback that can challenge the line. Smith is scared to get tackled, no doubt about it.

Porter has a running game?

average :dougy:

he is a real halfback, he was talking, directing and getting the ball when he needed it..first few weeks, barrett was touching the ball a 1000 times a game, first game with smith and baz's touches halved..i think it was smith 57 touches to barretts 17..

porter has no running game either..

with porter, he is limited and the opposition know it, with smith, he has that unpredictability which will hopefully not get coached out of him and become a robot like the rest of the team

watch our win vs the knights

smith would be great if he had some decent centers to through cut out balls 2

no center we have is overly fast or runs good lines, he cant create points if no one runs decent lines, put kelly at 5/8 an for and example jennings in the centers and he would have heaps of line break assists and try assists.

I thought Tim Smith was going to really lift the side and organise the forwards but unfortunately this hasn't happened - yet.

I like Scott Porter but honestly he doesn't take on the line and challenge the defence with variety. Kicking is important but I'd much rather someone who could dummy and split the line with speed. Do either of these offer this?

Tim Smith has a more expansive passing game provided the runners are standing a bit deeper to avoid the intercepts. Are we still suffering from the old Chris Anderson style of flat attack?

I am more worried that the instincts as halfbacks they both have are being coached out of them.

They both have stopped running the ball within a month of them starting that only says one thing to me and it really worries me I really hope I am wrong!

Anyone else notice this.

Do you go to the games BundyShark (nice name BTW)? I only ask because you probably can't see much of the action off the ball on TV, but Smith is constantly barking orders at the forwards, and the backs for that matter.

I don't think Ports attempted to run the ball until about his 5th or 6th game!

With Baz (perhaps) going off to SOO, we might even see both of them on the paddock at the same time!

I remember chip kicks and him trying different things and we were all excited to see it then it all just stopped.

Creativity is the word I was looking for.:)

Spot on Willy - why are they not performing? Poor game plans, Poor Interchange decisions, Poor recruitment, Poor coaching? and we are looking likley of obtaining the ‘true’ wooden spoon!

Something has to change and soon!
