Do u honestly rate Wawrick Carter Peach ? He is terrible in my opinion! I would have Snowden at hooker over him

yes i do, i have seen [that means the full game] all but 2 [broncos, dragons game] of NYC games and he has been very impressive in all of them, knows his role, can choose when to run and lays the platform for snelson when he comes on

I am more worried that the instincts as halfbacks they both have are being coached out of them.

They both have stopped running the ball within a month of them starting that only says one thing to me and it really worries me I really hope I am wrong!

Anyone else notice this.
I think you also have to factor in the fact that once they are studied on video by the opposition for a couple of weeks, life becomes a lot harder. e.g. Porter's nice little inside ball dummy... was a great surprise at first, but then you come to expect it.

I know I sound like a broken record... but... Barrett to lock, Smith to left half, Porter to right half and have the centres and the wings set deeeper with them running on to the ball rather than receiving flat passes flat-footed.

There's absolutely no difference between a half and a five-eighth in today's game in my opinion and the role of a lock has changed so much with un-contested scrums that I reckon Barrett's skills set would sync in beautifully.

Smith does have a decent centre to throw the ball to. Shane Elford.

I'm here all week.

smith would be great if he had some decent centers to through cut out balls 2

no center we have is overly fast or runs good lines, he cant create points if no one runs decent lines, put kelly at 5/8 an for and example jennings in the centers and he would have heaps of line break assists and try assists.

You've made some good points and given us an insight I haven't had before, but I just can't get the idea of an 'ass' coach out of my head...

Heck yes.
My mate plays in the NSW cup side (wont name him for obvious reasons) and he says Ricky and Grima (ass coach) are both very much defensive coaches. Ricky especially has a very particular style of play that does not allow for any flambuoyancy or creativity.
This is killing us and now that our defence is no longer up to scratch like in '08, questions need to be asked because we cant score tries (like always) and now we cant stop them.
Rick needs to swallow his pride and allow his players to play football and maybe bring in a some help to deal with attack while he and Joey take care of defense. If we clean up our defense, attack might come because at this stage this team is not up to chasing points, we are capable of holding leads but once we're behind (even by a try or 2) we are in all sorts.

We need to find another way to move forward because at this stage, what we doin aint working and i believe it starts with the coach.

Bugger, you got in first! (this entendre is only because of our coaching...)

I think I've found the problem with our training methods.

Jokes aside.... (here all week though)
I would choose Porter over Smith. Not because he will make a difference in this weeks game, or possibly the next, but because he is a player for our future. Porter stepped into first grade and made a very solid showing, that's something we haven't seen too much of this season.
Our financial troubles aren't going away next year or our ability to draw top shelf talent increasing, if we don't nurture the talent we have here I believe we're in for a grim few years ahead. We need to bolsture the ranks with some players of first grade quality, even if they are discards or born-again's, but the core of the team needs to be young talent that is given the chance to develop before they get sick of sitting in the bleachers and move on (*cough* too many players to name here *cough*).

How many quality, passionate seasons, will we get out of a team of mercenaries?

I reckon at the moment due to the team as a whole there probably wouldn't be a great deal between SFP and Smith. In the long run Smith will be at least twice the player SFP can be.

Tim Smith and SFP are miles apart... no disrespect to SFP...

Or is it "were miles apart"? I'm not writing Smith off, I just think he and Porter need to compete for the top spot. And I believe the young guys coming through might make better combinations.

The funny thing is I think Smith next to Barrett is the best choice, but I think SFP would be the best half back to partner with Albert Kelly.

I like one half to be solid and the other to have flair basically. Barrett is solid so it's good to have the flair of Smith. But Kelly is all flair and needs someone solid like SFP.

Kelly plus Smith would be a really bad combo I reckon. When it's on it'd be great but I reckon they'd both go missing in games and both would be passengers in defence. I don't think either of them are ever going to be really cool headed either.

Agree agree- can't hide two bad defenders.Reminds me of Dykes- great attacking player but couldn't/wouldnt tackle!
