I disagree saying that Ben Barba would not play well if we had a dominant half is ludicrous, it was an exhibition match not many combinations clicked.
Wasn't the best game heap if penalties
Correct, the game didn't really flow.

I though Barbs looked pretty good for a warm up game.

I was more impressed when Barba was singled out in defence or forced to adlib. Handled both really well.
An early offload that caused an overlap and handled taumalolo really well considering how much damage that man caused at the nines.

I thought Barba showed a very crisp passing game that was a pleasant surprise.

Even more importantly, he stood his ground in defence against some serious strike forwards, showed much more mettle than we would of seen from Carney.

We already know he has a running game and can produce some nice short kicks.

Overall , very promising to my eye.

Yeah he didn't have to be the hero last night with Thurston running things.

I think he showed great composure to just make sure he did his job. Bodes well I think.

which begs the question, if we were to get dce is it going to be a problem with dce as half back

It's interesting. Having a spud like Robbo as halfback might put too much pressure on Barba, he may try and do too much because Robbo sure as hell won't create anything.

I think having a quality half will be good for his game. Will allow him to do less organising which will hopefully allow him to try more individual things and sniff around the forwards constantly.

If I hadn't been off my scone with the flu 2010, then this reply from HB would be close to what I would have come up with. :)

The timing of his passing was excellent. Early season, players can tend to have their timing off among being rusty in other areas too but Barba was spot on and picked his moments to run as well.
While I am not quite yet sold on Barba at 5/8 (although we have no other choice) I agree that their was some promising signs.

I really don't like him at half, he just seems so much more dangerous at fullback and just very conservative at half.

I like the style of 5/8 Barba "could be." Off the cuff, support play, play as you see kind of player.

I just think that Robson is the wrong style of half back for that. Not bashing Robbo, but a Reynolds, Hodko type player is what is needed.

Will be interesting if we sign DCE how they would work.
