They handed down their initial penalty about a day later I think? We wouldn't have had a chance to get much evidence together by then. They kind of had the upper hand because they could get the witness accounts straight up etc. Also, I don't think they'd be too worried about handing out a harsh penalty and then reducing it upon appeal if absolutely necessary. Really all that is at stake is a couple of blokes watching a game of park football. Big deal. We probably need to be a bit more thorough, considering that there's probably close to $1m pa (guess) worth of contracts up in the air. And if we go with the light penalty and it turns out we didn't do enough, we'll cop it.
Also, Channel 9 were already squirting over it before we were probably even aware of it. So if we handed down a penalty straight away it wouldn't have been enough, no matter what we did.
We are damned if we do, damned if we don't, such is our reputation and position. I'm firmly of the view we can't win with the stupid media games no matter what we do.
