Why did you have to bring this up again haha it's ****ing outrageous he's not suspended.
It was more intentional and more illegal than Dale's head clash, smashed a bunch of the guys teeth!

It’s really disappointing that he was not charged and free to play.

So… full tangent rant.

My son is out for the season after having his head taken off today. He was coat-hangered returning a kickoff, after which he stopped to shake off the effects. The referee didn’t penalise the coat-hanger, so about 2 seconds later he was hit by two different players while standing stationary and relaxed - one of whom hit him square in the temple, and the other who hit him from the side and jarred his shoulder. An hour later he was in hospital, having x-rays on his collarbone and vomiting from the concussion. He’ll now miss his grand final and his entire school footy season. It makes me sick what this sport has become.

**** that sounds bad. Hard to get a good ref in the jnrs unfortunately. Sorry to hear., bet Mums unhappy. Player down here did cop two yr ban for a forearm to a player on the grnd who lost 2 teeth in the 18's.. So sometime the system works i guess.

Thanks mate. I’ve lost all confidence in RL officials to protect players. I had another player go to hospital today with a concussion today too. No penalty. I think I need to find a new sport for both myself and my son.

It’s something iv been thinking of as my youngest is nearly at the age of playing league.
The concussions at young ages is the worry, my wife’s a Dr and fully against him playing especially while the brain is still in an important development stage, but I played from under 7 to jr reps and NSW cup and being 6 foot 4 and my sons looks twice his age figure he will be fine and follow my footsteps but the more and more I see and hear these days has me questioning if I steer him to basketball instead.

It’s something iv been thinking of as my youngest is nearly at the age of playing league.
The concussions at young ages is the worry, my wife’s a Dr and fully against him playing especially while the brain is still in an important development stage, but I played from under 7 to jr reps and NSW cup and being 6 foot 4 and my sons looks twice his age figure he will be fine and follow my footsteps but the more and more I see and hear these days has me questioning if I steer him to basketball instead.

I think the NRL development guys are doing some great work with the TackleReady/TackleSafe programs in the very young ages, but those programs have only been running a couple of years - and the NRL have no oversight of the local leagues or refs. Our comp is the Wild West.

School games are even worse. I saw 3 different players dropped on their heads in a school game last week, and no whistle. The game did feature 5 penalties for incorrect play the balls though - so good on the ref for cracking down on the important stuff.

My experience with younger ages was 95% positive. There are still bad refs, but for the most part they call all of the dangerous stuff.

About 6 weeks ago we submitted a video to the league of...
- a player being lifted and driven in the ground a la the Cleary tackle (no penalty)
- a player being coat-hangered (no penalty)
- a player being karate kicked in the knee to save a try (no penalty)
- a ref watching a concussed player stumble and fall to the ground, and then turning his back and playing on because the home team was attacking the line down by 4 points
- refs obviously cheating. E.g.
* telling players that the double knock on rule is "first team to knock on gets the feed"
* telling players that when the home team knocks on when attacking near your try line, it's a drop out
* extending the game 7 minutes past full time because the home team were trailing

The league refused to watch the video and sent us back a one line denial, saying that they had other refs at these games watching, and none of the things we claim actually happened.

Sweet Mary... that's awful mate. I hope your boy bounces back to full health soon.

Still can't believe I'm saying it, but... AF'nL... just as stats crazy as the NRL but with a sense of duty of care. I've watched quite a bit of junior and senior leagues now that my kids play, and they've got a lot worked out.
And way better half time entertainment at GF's. Thanks cast of the latest Victorian stage play, but I really do love The Killers.

NAS has massive form in this area. It's a crazy decision. He'll go straight out and offend again.

Few old friends that went on and kept playing for wests all seem to be struggling with mental illness in some way or form tho plenty that have never played the game do as well

If he's on the larger size for age he be fine. It's pretty upsetting but watching yr son get carried off , and spending nights in hossie beside him. Just can be unlucky however and still a risk i guess.

I reckon that's what the QRL thinks.

Oh - the other one was penalising the kicking team because the receiving team caught the ball before it had travelled 10 metres. While my captain stood they saying "sir, that's actually our penalty", he allowed a quick tap and the home team ran 50m to score under the sticks. Fun times.

I once saw a ref give the scrum feed to the blatantly wrong team off an infringement. Crowd were going off at him about it.

Next stoppage in play he held up hand to crowd and shouted out 'sorry I did get that last scrum wrong, don't know what I was thinking, I made a mistake'

People make mistakes especially at the lower grade levels but it's not that hard to own up to it. The league can't bury their heads in the sand about it though. If the league won't pay attention these guys who are willing to ref will keep making mistakes and get abused out of the role... or even worse, make the NRL
