Wish Talakai was a queenslander

Glad he isn't

Might have been able to get a NSW jersey if he qualified, given his great form and versatility

Regardless of these hypotheticals he is injured anyway

Honestly NSW should be 1.20 favourites for this, but will probably find a way to bottle it.

Philip Sami? I know Ronaldo probably isn't ready for origin yet but if Sami is getting picked over him they've got an issue

Taken from 2 separate articles, but they are touching on the same thing.

The Queensland Rugby League has called for the end of Origin’s dual-eligibility rules after Penrith dynamo Jarome Luai was picked for the NSW Blues despite declaring “my heart is with Samoa”.

While Luai was born in Australia and qualifies for the Blues, QRL chairman Bruce Hatcher wants eligibility rules to be overhauled to prevent Origin players from representing multiple nations.

QRL chairman Bruce Hatcher has even called for an investigation into Origin’s eligibility rules – after his state lost in 2018 and again in 2019.

The breathtaking list of players that scream ‘Queenslander, Queenslander’ have been stolen from NSW, ACT, Fiji, Ireland, Tonga, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

“It’s the same farce NSW has had to live with for decades,” said former NSW forward David “Cement’ Gillespie. “Isn’t it strange Queensland starts bringing all this up after they start to lose.”

The last part is spot on.

If he had a full and properly funded International schedule I wouldn't mind if they canned the dual eligibility rule. But you can't expect players to choose to play for an international side who plays a tier one game every other year.

Re: guys like Keary, if he feels he is a Queenslander that's fine, but he's eligible for NSW, If he doesn't regard himself as a Blue then he sits out of origin tbh you're eligible for one state or the other

Sami played pretty strongly in games I saw of him. And relatively versatile squad member.
Doesn't jump out at me as being any more shocking than the likes of Allan, Capewell, Coates, Hess, Hunt and Kerr. While you can make an argument for any of these guys, (ignoring the quality of their replacement would be even lower) you wouldn't see too many people shocked if they weren't included.

Eligible for one state or another. Lock it in. if Keary feels like he is a Qlder but isn't eligible then hey, Origin just isn't for him.

Can be from NSW or Qld and also be Tongan or Samoan or whatever. Makes internationals stronger, and as you say, drastically increases number of high quality games their players are able to get in around a typically thin international calendar. Have to be legit eligible for the state though, which I think means moving over relatively young (or obviously, being born in the state)

Only one I'm unsure of is how deep into eligibility you should be able to go to qualify for additional tier 1 nation (Aus, NZ, England). Once you declare for one the fact you have one grandmother who was born in another one and lived there until she was 3 years old maybe shouldn't be a good enough reason to make a switch.

Just read the Keary stuff, born in Qld and lived there until 10 - should be eligible for Queensland. Given he then moved to NSW and developed as a footballer in that system I don't mind calling it dual eligibility but when he went to emerging origin camps for Qld that should have been the end of that.

Freddie could have shown some big balls and not selected him given he has been quite clear he views himself as a Queenslander. Might have pushed the rules to get overhauled to have someone like him forced to sit out.

I think if Keary really thought himself a QLDer then he shouldn't be playing as eligibility has him as only eligible for NSW under the current rules. **** QLD getting another player in that sort of manner after the Inglis bit all these years.

Brimson is a much better choice at fullback for Qld than the injured Ponga, who is overrated IMO

"He should sit out if he feels he's a QLDer" LOL

Keary is a QLDer but he's not stupid enough to deny himself Origin & the money over it.

Just get the best players playing the best games. Who gives a **** it's an entertainment product. Caring about which side of an imaginary line a kid first kicked a footy is as relevant as local juniors.

Personally I would prefer it if origin was a one off exhibition game similar to the all-stars, a showcase instead of a series

Would much a focus on filling out and developing the international scene, if we want to grow the game that's the avenue for it, Origin made sense when it was just NSW and QLD in 1980, now we have teams across three states (and two countries) with an eye on expansion

The only reason anyone cares about origin is the rivalry. Without that you have a ProBowl... Which is a bit of fun but total **** quality wise
