Drew & Gagan will provide good cover imo. add in mitch brown, beale, luetele, bird plus capewell (he can play centres) and i think we should be ok. probably need just 1 more depth outside back player.

I think Gagan is the opposite of good cover. You'd want your NSW Cup blokes to be fit when the crap hits the fan rather than a bloke with spaghetti hammies. Definitely need some more back depth I reckon.

Brian Smith would be a great ESL coach too. Coaches an open style and deals well with small budgets and gets the best out of limited players. I reckon Toops will have a huge year over there, lots of their play will revolve around him.

Hell, if Cuthbo can kill it over there then Toops will be untouchable.

Early days, but this is the team I'd like to see run out in round 1

1. Barba
2. Holmes
3. Leutele
4. Beale
5. Feki
6. Maloney
7. Townsend
8. Gallen (60mins)
9. Ennis
10. A Fifita
11. Graham
12. Lewis
13. Bird

14. D Fifita
15. Jesse Sene-Lefao
16. Bukuya
17. Heino

Prior, Taga unlucky to miss out, but with many of our forwards big minute players, I'd rather the size and impact of guys like Fifita and JSL in the squad.

Alternatively, if Bird is at centre I'd go with this.

1. Barba
2. Holmes
3. Bird
4. Beale
5. Feki
6. Maloney
7. Townsend
8. A Fifita
9. Ennis
10. Heino
11. Graham
12. Lewis
13. Gallen

14. D. Fifita
15. JSL
16. Bukuya
17. Nu Brown

Once again, max impact off the bench with Fifs and JSL bringing the fire, Bukuya comes on for Lewis as our line runner on the edge and Nu Brown gets 20 minutes or so to roam around the big boys creating more attacking opportunities.

Thoughts?

I'd like to see us go in with a 4 forward bench. Nu looked good but he hasn't played all year, he needs to be playing nsw cup at first IMO.

Also taga needs to be there so I'd start him and have heino in the 4th bench spot. Otherwise that second side is ideal, I really think bird would kill it in the centres.

I see more improvement in DFifita and a higher workrate than Taga. Harsh to leave him out but theres only so many spots

I prefer the second side. I don't buy the Bird -> forwards idea. We're already running a light-weight pack and I don't see that adding a young back with arthritis to that mix is going to help him or the team unless the side is restructured significantly.

I still hope that we pick up a Tim Grant or similar or that someone like D. Fifita, Prior or Sene-Lefao step up to the starting prop role.

I think nu may need a solid 8 weeks in new cup get his mojo and confidence back..id rather 4 forwards as plan A, we have enough crafty X factor surely with barba val bird to at least start the season..

Same for me(Bird at Lock) but surprisingly I think Prior game 1 (should've been in finals team)ahead of Bakuya who needs a big off season and Dfif who let us down

Agree. I've said before he needs at least two off seasons in the gym before moving to the forwards.

Flanno will surround himself with his mates, captain courageous running the show and doing what he likes, but one things for sure we won't be winning any comp if barba's in the side.

I'm strongly inclined to agree with this. Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of his problem but the backs seem more likely to to give him career longevity.

If Flanno tries him at fullback I hope he bombs and is moved to the centres ASAP. We well and truly have fullback covered and next year is the year to give the premiership a genuine shake. Next year isn't the time for experiments IMO.
