I get what you're saying gumby about seeing some guys look good in NRL straight away, having only got a chance through injury - well no wait actually they got a chance through playing cup well enough to be next man up... it's rare the injury call up happens to be a nobody from ron macey who takes the NRL by storm, probably never. If Iro gets a chance and goes well nobody will be shocked because he has put himself in position to do that, he hasn't yet put himself in position to flat out win the jersey. Fitz obviously disagrees so far Talakai has lost the jersey (he almost did!).
People in here have been calling for the likes of Iro and Trindall to start or we'll lose them for years. Iro still hasn't made any of the 17 NRL teams, Trindall put himself in a position to make ours when an opportunity presented. I don't think he demanded it but he was clear next man up. While there were things Moylan was being unfairly lashed for I was for removing him weeks, probably months earlier. I also was watching Trindall at the same time wondering why he couldn't give us a bit more in cup to increase the pressure to make it happen.
It's easy to say from the keyboard it is worth the risk but if picking a player on 'just in case' and 'maybe' and 'giving a go' costs you two wins in those 4-5 weeks Fitz job comes into question.
I'd be more open to the trying stuff ideas if I didn't understand from coaches perspective why he can't always do that.
I hope he looks at a lot of different options through preseason and trials and may the best men win. Won't see me upset if Iro in centre round 1.
