What I consider an "enforcer" is being eradicated or at least vastly changed (neutered). JWH & NAS last of them and they're now branded "thugs".

Steve Matai was more of an "enforcer" than most props now.
yes and no.

Every top team that’s won the comp has pretty much had them, they are very necessary.

BHU and Hunt in a way are that, same as Penrith’s prop can’t remember his name, Parra has Paulo and RCG etc, Fifita and prior for us in 16

Woods ain’t none of that is what I’m trying to say

Completely agree. Woods doesn't even hold his own let alone stand up for his little guys. Hunt and BHU are our enforces. They have grown into it more as the year has gone on. Hunt due to inexperience and BHU due to injury. They are both big strong dudes though.

Yep the NRL can't handle these types of guys these days, too worried about offending people who have no interest in the game.

We liked Ramien being an enforcer but we didn't like him giving away penalties and getting sent off

It's a hard line to dangle in modern NRL (unless you are Roosters or Storm for some reason and get all sorts of leeway)

Hunt & BHU can put on big hits but are more focused on playing good consistent footy these days with the occasional wack on a ball carrier

An enforcer needs to be a bit of a madman, we don't really have that and I can live with it. I reckon if someone challenges Hunt or stirs him up we will see the fire (like earlier in year against Dogs in trial)

Some of Gals best footy was later in his career when he cut out all the niggly grubby crap and cared less about being a hard man and belting people and just carted the ball up and cut out the errors and poor discipline

I think 'enforcer' or perhaps 'aggression' is just another skill.
Like all skills some players have a little, some a medium amount, some a lot.
It also has a risk reward element, are you getting over your opponent or rattling them? Or are you KOing yourself/teammate or being a discipline liability?

If the NRL was cracking down on the actions of some of these guys properly nobody would be wishing we had one like them.
Ramien was a great comparison.

Hunt with TPJ, Rudolf vs Warriors first game after flipping, Finucane and McInnes' whole careers.
We know we have a pack that won't be intimidated or take a backward step.

I'd rather us trying play through JWH and NAS bs not play into it and risk it being our guy who goes for 10... because it almost certainly would be.

I wouldn't put down unforced errors as just showing healthy aggression towards the ball.
I do think our hotter headed guys have reigned it in more recently and are far better for it (looking at you too, Ronnie). Hopefully they don't get a finals bloodrush and can channel those natural instincts in a positive way

Definitely this.

I am happy with what we have and frustrated at the inconsistency of the NRL.

It's a more entertaining game with those types though. I agree we're probably better off without one but as whole NRL is poorer without JWH v NAS style forward battles.

Agree, love to watch when two of the big angrys come together and make a war out of it.
Doesn't necessarily make for 'good' footy, but makes for good watching.

I'd be happy to see Burgess and JWH slog it out (not quite NAS level but it'll have to do) this weekend, even happier (from a Sharks perspective) if someone ends up suspended or missing the rest of finals as a result.

Happy for the angry lads to have a place in the game, they just need to stay on the right side of the line OR get suspended.
This NAS crossing the line and slaps on the wrist (if anything) business isn't right.

Bloody oath it's more entertaining, anyone who thinks otherwise is following the wrong code imo. It's what Rugba League has always been about but we're trying to change it. Shits me.

i really think some of you under rate the work of BHU and Hunt
at full flight they're intimidating enough without having to carry on like a madman.
its controlled agression and i dont think fitz wants a loose unit in the team
without dropping elbows in tackles they play a clean enforcer roll

as for JWH and co, best way playing them is to ignore their niggle. a fisherman hates a fish that doesnt bite. an intimidator hates not getting a reaction. win the mental battle and they'll implode

From memory, one of BHU's injuries earlier on in the season was from trying to put a big hit on Nelson.
