people are getting their period over losing peachey. he is the same age as wade graham. peach has 50 mins of first grade to his name, wade has over 50 games.
i think people are just spewing because of his last name. if it was tyrone rego, no one would care.

chad, meh, he is a nuffy. if he gets a solid run at the warriors it shows more about there team than his quality.

mills, 50/50, burst onto the scene and was the golden child then died down.

friz, unfortunately he is not better than any of the back rowers on our books, could of been a decent centre though

bukuya, $$$$ talked. and he is the most up and down player we have.

pickerd? can someone start a where are they now thread? sharky pete went on like he was the next slater...

if you wanna talk about toyota cup... we have made the finals once since it was introduced. our local talent is balls. im happy to go on the recruitment over retention at this stage

Wade has played 98 games. Was so shocked to find that out. Great effort for a 22/23 year old!

One of the most difficult things for me to comprehend about youth retention and the Peachey saga in particular is that our retention and promotion is so poor. Our Toyota Cup team is running last which indicates that we have very few you could pick from that squad to be promoted through to 1st grade in the future. Our NSW cup side is going great guns, although the best players in that squad according to many, are Melbourne based as well as the player that has just signed somewhere else.

We haven't signed one notable extra for 2014 that improves our current 'ageing' squad from what it is. We have lost 4 to 5 players set to possibly make their mark in the coming seasons and that was an investment I believe was a worthwhile one to make. Flanagan has made some good buys in the past few seasons but most are forwards who have 2 to 3 years left. In the past decade the football that the Sharks play has mostly been dull and boring. Now that could be a reflection of the way footy is going in general but it has a lot to do with the coaching styles of the coaches as well as who they recruit/ retain.

That I did plus most likely others. Vave would be pretty handy coming off the bench IMO. I think he could have managed a few more games here and it would have assisted in re-signing him. I don't think he would have played a large amount more though.

He's played pretty well in Melbourne, and now rumoured to be a bronco's target. We let so many go when they're too young, without developing them. If Gallen had been a sharks junior he would no longer be at the club.

If you look at our current list of forwards Vave wouldn't even get a look in.....and lets be honest if we sign David Fifita he has a lot more Potential than what Vave will ever have. Licha is the most important Young Player we need to retain, he is in a position we need and has the potential to be a star. Most of the others that have been mentioned aren't that big of a deal. Snowman will disagree on this the only other player we possibly should have kept is Townsend and that is because we are short on Halves and although he may not become a star I think he can become a Solid First grade option with a good half next to him. He may however be slow to develop into this Role.

I believe he is signed to the bulldogs NSW Cup team as depth.

I think he's played one NSW Cup game this year.

Thing is this ,you don't even need to be winning the u20 comp to produce talent ,ie a bottom of the ladder team could still have a couple of guns in it.
The other thing to think about is the amount of players that go through these comps each year ,I would guess a large majority end up not making it relying on you juniors is a gamble.
It's not like the old days where you were a one club team ,as due to salary caps you can't always stay where you want.
End of the day if you can scout/recruit talent from elsewhere then why not, not like all the sharks u20 players are all locals either ;) (The poaching/recruiting starts at about 14/15)
It's all a balancing act to make sure you have $$ left over for parts of the team you are short so sometimes you got to let people walk when you don't want to
,haha it's hard balancing a fantasy dreamteam

Yeah when he left I didn't see him doing anything. Earlier on he looked very promising though, which just goes to show you don't always know how a player will turn out.

I bet he regrets turning down the offer we gave him now.

Shire locals or shire juniors?

Heaps of players live here, or at least frequent the place. It should really give us an advantage in recruiting when we get our **** together.

i did mean learnt their craft in the shire though evertonshark answered me in the tyrone peachey post ,,i totaly agree we should be a powerhouse as the shire would be the cream of sydney living and affordable on a league salary and short travelling for footy players ,even bloody gus lives in the shire i think i read somewhere

Flannagan has no clear path for the young players coming through. They leave for opportunity.
We sign Carney for 5 years (good signing) and then resign an aging average half back to a further 2 years, who will be lucky to see out his contract, and let a halfback who could have been with Carney for the full 5 years go.
I don't think Townsend has had a game with Carney, so we don't know how good the combination could have been.
He persists with average players like the Pharoah of Fumble Pommeroy and not give players like Mills a decent opportunity. One game in and dropped the next week is not an opportunity.
I think we will be the new Parramatta in 3-4 years. Paying overs for aging players and having our average juniors staying with the club because they are all we have left after the best get poached.

We have let some junior players go but in all fairness how many have gone onto to have better careers?

I can't think of too many that we let go who have gone on to bite us. Cliff Lyons?

The ones I can think of at the moment who were juniors here - Brown, Galloway, Reddy, Frizzel(sort of) - that is just off the top of my head.

matt kind, dane neilsen*, goodwins, brad takairangi, bosden, romelo*, sam moa*,

but just think, this discussion we are having, would be the same one penrith, parra, tigers, dragons fans would all be having. for every 100 kids in the junior league, only about 6 will make it...
