Just thought I'd take our minds off all the player merry go round that is happening at the moment.

I got to thinking about the greatest Sharks victories we have had from 2000 until the present day and thought it would be great for us to nominate our best five.

They can be premiership round games or finals games.

I'm happy for any old timers to mention games before 2000 as well. :)

Here are mine.

1. Sharks v Storm 2016 Grand Final 14-12

Couldn't think of any better game than to put at number one. Our first premiership, best feeling ever.

2. Sharks v Manly 2005 68-6

Just pips the Knights game as it was against the old enemy. Loved seeing us wipe Manly's backside.

https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/...d-24/cronulla-vs-manly-warringah/summary.html

3. Sharks v Knights 2002 64-14

42-0 at half time, Kimmorley with 28 points, Joey Johns complaining to the ref at half time about the score. Happy days!

https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nrl-2002/round-22/sharks-vs-newcastle/summary.html

4 Sharks v Storm 2012 Round 10 12-10

This was a game we had no chance of winning up against Smith, Cronk, Slater and co at Shark Park. We had players like Matthew Wright, Issac Gordon, Jeff Robson, Ben Pomeroy etc and we beat them in front of almost 15,000 fans at Shark Park. I was there and it was a great feeling. Here's a link to our team that day, see how **** it was!

5. Sharks v Roosters Round 17 30-28

Against a star studded Roosters side and with a bit part Sharks side and losing 24-6 at half time, somehow we stormed home to win 30-28 with a Jeff Robson try in the dying minutes.
Here are all the details:

Nice distraction job Chad :)

I think the GF is everyone’s #1.

I’ll get cracking on my 2-5 list.

Can't believe you missed the win over Canberra in the 2016 finals mate, that was huge.

I knew I was bound to miss some HB - yes agree emphatically that was a great win with no Gal and was Wade knocked out in that game too? I know we lost someone early.

Yeah, Wade. Capewell came on and played 77 minutes or something like that.

Sorry but can't easily link the games but a few that come to mine from past eras are below. For you young-uns - if you want to see some good old fashion Sharks passion (especially the first game below where we really punched above our weight) watch these games:

1995 Sharks v Manly. Won 17 to 10. Manly were a gun team and we had just knocked off Brisbane and Canberra in previous weeks.

Mitch Healy does a massive one on one try saver in last 10 minutes. End up throwing up a minute later due to fatigue.

1999 Qualifying Final Endeavour field
Sharks v Brisbane. Won 42 to 20

Sharks dominated that game bit nothing was better than the scrum move on the half way line with Peachey breaking the defence and scoring untouched.

1997 Sharks v Raiders at SFS.
1st round Super League, Raiders were at there best and were expected to win the comp. Matt Rogers scores 2 tries with ET doing one of the best flick passes for one of them.

1997 - Major Prelim final - Sharks v Canberra. Sharks win 22-18.

Again another classic. M Rogers scores one of the best tries from dummy half from our own 30m line. Talk about raw speed!

Sorry one more -

Sharks v Canberra 1990
Sharks won 8-7
This year Canberra had arguably their best ever side (won the comp and was in about 4 out of 5 GFs around that time)

Canberra were up by 4 and Ricky Stuart kicked field goal with not long to go to put them up by 5.

In comes ET. First he chases Daley down with one of the best try savers of all time THEN with seconds to go scores a tough individual try under the posts.

For those of us who get nervous when we kick for goals now - back then nothing was different. We had Alan Wilson who kicked those old leather balls by toe punting. These were always hit and miss at the best of times. Anyway he got this one and we won.

Coincidently our coach at the time was one Alan Fitzgibbon!

Chad asked for 2000 onwards. These are all great wins though.

Is that the game where ET just took a hitup from 10-15m out in the middle and put on the swerve to beat a few guys and score under the black dot? I remember that one. Great game.

Here are two that are special to me.

1989, Round 18 vs Souths.
https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nswrl-1989/round-18/south-sydney-vs-cronulla/summary.html

and

1989 Playoff for 5th vs Broncos
https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nswrl-1989/playoff/cronulla-vs-brisbane/summary.html

These are probably the two games that sealed my fate as me a Rugby League fan, and a Sharks fan. Until then I was just a kid getting dragged along to Broncos games with my Dad, I didn't really know much of what was going on, and the only thing I really knew about players outside Brisbane was what could be read on the backs of footy cards. That Souths game was the first RL game I remember watching on my own. After that I was hooked on ET, McGaw, Russell and Speechley, and Rugby League in general.

Once I watched the playoff for 5th vs Broncos, I added Docking, Wilson and Miller to the list. Sadly the Sharks lost to the Raiders the following week, but since the 1989 GF was such a cracker the game now had me. I made my parents hire me VHS tapes of 80's GF's for me that summer, and I watched them all a few times over.

If not for those two Sharks games, I might not have become a Rugby League fan at all - or even worse, I might have been a Broncos fan.

That's the one mate. We had some great battles with Daley over those years. First with ET and then McGaw.

Saturday afternoon game on the ABC right?

Loved those ABC games. I started recording those games on VHS back in the late 80s early 90s as teenager. Used to watch them over and over.

We take it for granted now as we see every game live each week. Back then you were lucky to see the Sharks play on TV a couple times a year.

You are right. There was a time where there was a live game on the Saturday afternoon and a delayed game on the Sunday evening. I loved Sunday afternoon games. I'd have my radio at the game to get the around the ground scores and half-time/full-time summaries. Even at the games the ground announcer would go through scores from around the grounds to boos and cheers. Good times.

Norths seemed to get a lot of the ABC games. I think a lot of my mates ended up having a soft spot for Norths - just because you actually got to see them play.
