Considering the fact we have been in the Comp since 1967 and yet to win a premiership in 1st Grade , is it time for our representative players to commit to the club and make themselves unavailable for origin or do we continue to suffer the Origin injury hangover that we suffer each and every year

It's an interesting point, financially the players playing SOO get their incomes supplemented $50K a game and I am sure playing for your country you get some cash as well. Also having Sharks players in SOO and international teams benefits the club in boosting profile.

I don’t think there is an easy answer, but there needs to be some rules put in place by the NRL, like moving SOO to a standalone weekend and about compensation to the clubs when a player is injured

Evey athlete wants to be considered the best and to be the best gotta play soo anf international footy , they wanna test themselves at the highest level.we would love lewis gal and fifita with us year round buy thats selfish from a supporters point of view
I think you shouldn't have a choice to pull out of rep footy at all , if you get picked you play

This could be complete BS but I vaguely remember reading something years ago that said a player can only retire from rep footy after 10 years in first grade. Can anyone confirm this? I can't find anything on the NRL website.

Not sure how long Jamie Lyon had been in FG before he retired from rep footy.

Either way, I think it should be up to the player. If he wants to focus solely on his club career rather than play rep footy then that should be his right imo. Wouldn't bother me if there was no rep footy at all and the regular season was extended by a few games.

If we look at the roosters this year many of their key players are fron NZ (SBW) or they are non representative players , the bulldogs also for example, the rep games have a lesser impact on their success from week to week, if fergo signs with us we potentially will have 4 or 5 players who could play origin as do the Broncos or melbourne , is this fair in reality.

Probably not, but historically we usually have a really low number playing, so as a club it really hasn't been that detrimental to us compared to others.

I'm just happy to have rep quality players tbh, it's a welcome change for me.

Obviously I'd rather Cronulla win but it's the players choice. We lose pull if we try to make our players ignore rep duties. Rep players get paid well for their games played and it's a goal of nearly every successful sportsman to play at the highest level when ever possible.

Engadine, gods country.
as soon as nsw win one, id like to think gal would concentrate on sharks being that he would have ticked all his personal boxes except the premiership one. As for the others, well, they are still young, so rep honours are great for them and i wish them to succeed in their careers as best they can, for as long as they can

IMO. QLD will win 10 series in a row, and in 2 years Gal will no longer be chosen.

In your head, rent free
for players these days, its state because of the rep player bonus.

for NSW fans, it's club because you guys cant win the origin series.

in reality, the players play for rep jumpers, so any form of representitive football is going to be seen as a higher calibre than club football.

this is a pointless debate as they are never going to move it to a stand alone weekend to enhance players recovery

You can use the 'Origin hangover' as an excuse for just missing out on the top 8, but your kidding yourself if you blame it for costing you a Premiership.

For every player that comes off an Origin with niggling injuries that haunt them for the rest of the season, their are players that become absolute monsters and tear up the comp with new found confidence.

There is a train of thought amongst players ,coaches and supporters alike that are supporting the stand alone weekend , who would have thought we would have 2 referees on the field at once , or be able to change a referees decision with video review or Israel Folau would play AFL , anythings possible.

Channel 9 runs the game mate. As much as I hate the current set up it won't change. The ratings are too high mid-week as the game has no other sport to compete with.

I hope they don't do it. It would be ****ing boring having 1 state of origin game on the weekend.

Other sports manage a heavy calendar. Even Rugby League has been able to do it in the past with Mid-week cups etc.

How would you play City/Country on the same weekend as Origin?

They could have some kind of poly islands test or something to provide some kind of entertainment, but that would have limited appeal.

It also has to be remembered that they would need to have 3 weeks off NRL to allow for all Origin games.

Jeez, that would be a long 3 weeks mid-season.
