Will concussions force Graham to retire?
Cronulla skipper Wade Graham is set to take a four-week hiatius from the game as he deals with the consequences of repeated concussion.
Graham copped his fourth head knock of the season in Cronulla’s win over the Panthers on Friday.
Graham insisted in an interview with The Daily Telegraph, but said he will take an extended break from the NRL and take advice from a specialist.
Former Dragons and Bulldogs prop James Graham who has been outspoken about concussion said his namesake was making a smart move by consulting medical advice.
“I think it’s a smart move,” Graham said. “You’ve got to be very careful and delicate when you are in a situation like this you’ve got to avoid going into a process of listening to what everyone else has to say.
“There’ll be people calling for Wade to hang up the boots for good.
“I like what Wade has had to say so far.
“He said he’d speak to the people who have handled Boyd Cordner and Luke Keary so well.
“But again, treat him as an individual. No doubt he’ll be seeking some of the best minds in Australia on this front.
“I think it’s a good positive move to take himself away from it.”
Michael Ennis was commentating on Graham’s Sharks on Friday and said the concussion was hard to watch.
“It’s super hard,” Ennis said.
“Even at halftime I just had to take a moment seeing a mate like that.
“It’s really difficult, the one against the Roosters there wasn’t a lot to it. I’ve seen wade and he was one of the toughest players I’ve played with and he was old school, he loved the tough stuff.
“To see him and the state of him afterwards, seeing him getting up as he cops a second one and lost his legs, I hope he can take a breath.”
