You wouldnt be laughing if you attended it though

yeah id be dirty if i'd gone there. Hard to see from the **** webcast (that only lasted 40 minutes) did it rain?

Hopefully we take our lessons from it, its all ya can do. end of the day was 4 tries to 2 in 80 minutes, of a trial. No real injuries. I hope Fifita isnt showing us what our 650,000 bought

Well 2010 has covered off alot of what I was going to say about last night. Decent crowd and atmosphere for a trial game, Tigers fans were pretty happy to win and I was disappointed at how **** we looked when we shuffled up the players and had to rely on our so called depth. First 30 mins we were full of energy and looked sharp with good offloads, hard running and minimal mistakes, Defense and attitude were great although still had little creativity in attack other than the odd kick Barba offered up with mix success. Our 2 tries to Gordon were well executed although nothing we havn't seen 100 times before.

Ennis was as I expected, good passing and kicking out of dummy half along with the occasional effective run, he is quality. I tell you this our team will turn to **** if for some reason he is not out there, so we need him fit and playing 80 mins all year. I like Politini but he won't get the job done.

Barba needs to get more involved, hardly touched it and hardly called for it either. Carney carried this team the last few seasons so if Barba can't step up and take on similar responsibility we could be boned although I will say again that having Ennis there makes a massive difference but not enough to offset Robson and a timid Barba. DCE is an absolute must, a less halfback from the market will only suffice if Barba steps up. Yes it's a trail and early season but just calling my fears as I see them.

Toops was good but looked to get buggered too early and too easily, should be fit as a fiddle but didn't look it...
Prior was our best player IMO, hard running, quality offloads and no errors I recall
Gallen was good and not too much nonsense, looks fit and strong

Beale has some class about him no doubt but could be the next myth in Sharks colours and will probably be in the starting round 1 squad on name and rep alone, not because he has been better than our other backs who probably more deserve a spot

Robson was unbelievable pathetic, he curses himself when he does a ****ty 5 metre kick but I don't know why, surely at his age he has relised and can accept he just doesn't have ability. Guess he wants to do his best for the club which is good and all as he always puts in but his decision making and kicking is bringing this team down week after week. Murphy isn't the answer, I gave Robson some **** over a settler I saw from the smoko hill when we were trailing by about 20 points with 10 mins to go and upon returning to my seat, 2010 had to correct me that it was actually Murphy. FMD I was gobsmacked

Great to have the footy back and I enjoyed my night but Flanno needs to pull his finger out if we are not to just grind out wins and scrape by like usual
I will say this, there seemed to be more depth in our backline with them standing further back in attack but it didn't amount to us really creating anymore space or opportunities as once they got to the line they were receiving a typical flat pass trying to barge over or forcing the miracle ball

Thanks Gards, a nice read. I get the feeling Barba is never going to dominate and set up plays in the halves like Carney did. I'm OK with that, I believe he'll be a very good 5/8 alongside a quality half. I'm really not expecting too much from him with Spudley in the team.

Let's hope we get DCE for 2016!

I should give some credit to the Tigers defense, for a trial I thought they tackled and numbered up fairly well despite the odd occasion although we didn't throw much out of the box at them. Their forwards ran hard as well

Mitch brown didn't get much time but was solid for sure. Some strong defense and running and cleaned up some lose balls. Don't want him starting but probably won't be the end of the world either with Ricky and Beale being a bit uninspiring

I think this is one of the positives for us Gards. Our 1-5 isnt amazing, but at least when injuries start surfacing, our replacements dont offer a huge fall in ability like some other teams (or us previously). We used to replace guys with **** reserve graders. Now we will be replacing with **** first graders. Big difference.

True but I don't just want our first grader depth used to replace injuries. If blokes arn't performing to a good level give someone else a go

I kid you not I would not give a **** if Mitch Brown was given a go in the starting squad if a few rounds in Ricky & Beale have not lifted their game
We have bought these other players so have to try things before we stagnate too much

Who knows, a stint with the Jets might just been the rocket up the ass required

So a crap half game broadcast of a trial attracted more viewers than some A-League games on Fox? Check the pulse, the giant may not just be sleeping.

crabbing, penalties then injured?

I would love to see Fafita and his Bro occasionally run straight and hard using thier size and the shoulder, to be the first into a tackle not 3rd with no arm grabbing but also tackling with the shoulder.

They are both such big units they have the potential to hurt the oppo. Andrew really has to stand up this year we are paying him a shipload(hope he is not a one season wonder boy)

The thing with trials is you never really know what the game plan was coming into it, during the season proper you know that the coach and players are going to bust for 80 mins (or more) to get the win.

The trial said to me that each player seems to know where they should be on each play - there was not many times the play broke down we went through the motions. The tigers also have improved their defensive structures and techniques and will be a completely different prospect to what they were last year.

Other then that there is no point reading a any more into the game.

I will say after watching how easily the Bunnies handled St Helens our 9's form is probably a better indicator of our attack then the two trials we played.

I have really read some mixed things from this game. I was not there. From my understanding we had it over them in the first 40 minutes and they had it over us in the second 40 minutes. The only thing that worries me is how Barba will go kicking and setting up plays. I think the rest of the team will be fine (we all know Robbo will be average).

The thing that dissapoints me most about NU being injured is that I think he would have came off the bench as a utility to spark some attack, I hope that we use jack Bird in this role.

2 20 minute stints at the end of halves with freedom to roam would be perfect for him IMO.

I also think holmes at fullback is a must, but I don't see it happening.

1. Holmes
2. Gagan
3. Beale
4. Feki
5. Gordon
6. Barba
7. Robson
14. Bird

In my opinion would have more points than any other combinations and be defensively sound.

The trials have been a return to earth, considering the way we played in the Nines. The things that worried me on Saturday were the very poor discipline by the Fifitas (particularly Andrew Fifita), Gallen hitting it up every second play even if they were good hit-ups, and the wingers barely touching the ball. It's difficult to tell with unlimited interchange though, I suspect we would have run away with it over 80 minutes with limited interchange.

Tigers Twitter feed mentioned that the full match would be uploaded over the weekend. So should be up by the end of the week.

andrew's_sharks - I like that team/back line and I agree its probably the one with the most points in it. I think the roving role would suit Bird better than anyone, at lest in the short term. Perhaps just 12 months too early for a couple and a bunch utility might mean we have to drop off a big forward given the certain starters.

Anyway, trials and Nines are over. Has anyone unexpectedly put a case forward for first grade?

Seems like Semi Sauiluma has put his hand up for not only a NRL spot but also a centre spot. I definetely didn't see that coming from his Raiders form.

didnt get much game time but ran a great line for a try which ended up being called forward, pretty sure it was from Stanley

He is a unit, looks much bigger in real life, the line he ran was great, direct and at full pace, something our centres don't do as they have different styles.

With our style of play, I think we need more of the direct lines at full pace, picking the gaps

To answer your first question, I would have to say big Dave fifita would be the biggest stand out for a first grade spot, played very well in the all stars game and was impressive on the weekend, out played his brother by a mile

Hmm I wonder if alot of that was just users re-clicking/refreshing the stream to try and get it to work or rebuffer. Not sure exactly how they measure the hits
I will say that at the ground there were members of the audience in roosters, st-george, bunnies jerseys ect which I though was great having some interest from neutral fans even if it was only a semi excuse for them to get on the piss thought that was good

Agree. People give David **** because of his sirname and that is the only reason he is playing some first grade but it ignores the fact he is actually a pretty decent forward in his own right and I would have not problem with him coming from the bench in our first grade team.

Even in David's first NSW Cup game where you could say he was at his most unfit, even then he was making some impact.
