I'd save our best for the final trial. Reckon Coach Morris gives a few of the players From the PNG game (particularly in the forwards) another look in. Trial 2 Team will be Predominantly Non 1st graders IMHO.

Isn't this our final trial?

Either way it'll mean as much as the 9's.

But yeah, I'm keen to see our team go around, too.

aaah, your probably right HB. I just assumed 3 for us cause most teams seem to have min 3.

Broncos had a trial with like 3 fringe NRL players, that sort of thing doesn't really count. Most teams also didn't have to go to PNG

Either way it'll mean as much as the 9's.

But yeah, I'm keen to see our team go around, too.

Less? At least 9s had prize money.

Matt Johns Idea of Salary Cap relef had some Merit
$300K winner
200K runner up
100K 3rd
50 K 4th

Even Sharks would appreciate an extra 50K right now , if finished 4th

You're right, less.

Unless we win. In which case, we're back on track to take out the comp, baby!!

The best indication of a good season ahead is a high scoring draw. 2016 main trial, 30-30 vs West Tigers and the rest is history.

How would it be used? It's just one year... would you boost a few players contracts? Could you imagine the chaos in the player market, especially this close to the start of the season, if clubs suddenly had significant extra cash available? I might be missing the upside, but can't say I'm for it.

Yeah that does seem like chaos. Imagine the damage roosters could do with a sudden bonus 300k

I’d prefer to see it go to the bottom teams, but then you’d have teams tanking, I don’t think that would be good for the ratings

Rewarding winners with extra buying power in a salary cap league? Imagine if the GF winner got a proper prize say $1m instead of $100k; you could not only afford to keep your winning squad together but you could add to it.

If the 9's prize money added to your cap it'd be interesting to see how serious Roosters would've taken the WCC. Within 4 months (winning GF & 9's) they'd have added $2m to their cap - they could literally buy the 2 best players in the game they don't already have.

It sure as **** would make 9's relevant but that'd be the only positive among many, many negatives. Would make 90mins at the 9's just as valuable as an entire 30 odd weeks of NRL.

My starting 13 would be:

1. Tedesco
2. Addo-Carr
3. Mitchell
4. Xerri
5. Sivo
6. Munster
7. Cleary
8. Haas
9. Smith
10. Tomo
11. D Fifita
12. Cordner
13. Arrow

We just publish that and they have to come and play for us, right?

I think Flanno's kid is contracted to our primary FG squad - might be worth throwing in the mix

whatever wont matter, we will beat them in the trial and get embarrassed by them in the actual games that matter during the season.
the aussie team wearing cronulla jerseys would still lose to these ****s . it's tradition

I’d like to see Trindal and Tracey given more game time.

1st QTR SJ and Trindal
2nd QTR Chad and Tracey
3rd QTR Tracey and Trindal
4th QTR SJ and Townsend

Give Tracey some hooker time in the first qtr, Trindal 2nd, then let Brailey finish the second half

FMD if anyone needs some time playing together it is our starting halves Chad & SJ. they are hopeless. havn't been many games when they have both been decent

yea a pre-season tournament shouldn't really influence the main comp, although it would make clubs take it more serious the flow on consequences wouldn't make it worth it. plus you throw in the general lottery that is the play style of the nines with rusty trigger happy refs and it's a recipe for disaster. just straight out prize money is fine. the club can put it towards whatever they want, facilities, coaching staff ect but not cap management. it would prob just be used to upgrade contracts of money grubbing players already on the books as it doesn't leave alot of time to sign new recruits unless mid season or whatever.

Yeah that does seem like chaos. Imagine the damage roosters could do with a sudden bonus 300k
they could bring in Israel Folau and poach Xerri on unders. everyone wants to play for the roosters remember.

those draws were a masterstroke of pre-season engineering by Coach Flanagan. a win makes you too cocky, a loss hurts the confidence. he straddled the line and found the perfect middle ground of mental aptitude

Why is that mate?

You don't think 6pm on a Sunday is a stupid time for a trial? The NRL has hard enough time getting crowds to regular season games on Sunday nights, what are the chances of a decent turn out for a trial.

Especially when it's a fundraiser for Fine. the better time slot the more people come. The more people the more they raise.

I'm assuming there's a reason they couldn't play on another day or time.

I'll be going regardless just think a better time might have resulted in a larger crowd.

For some reason I thought it was a Saturday.

I doubt the NRL cares about trials to be fair, and I think that's fine. As long as the two participating clubs are OK with it.

What difference in crowd numbers would a different time make realistically? A few hundred people?

1st of March is a Sunday last time I checked.

Yeah it's not the end of the world but that's a few hundred people who might have wanted to go to check out the new stadium and the team. A few hundred people who won't be giving Gold coin donations for Fine. That's several grand right there, more if you assume people will donate more than a gold coin.

It's a good thing to do but they'd be better off doing it at our first home game. No reason why they can't do it then as well I guess.
