There were a lot of Sharks supporters up at the trial.

Many of the ones I know were former quality posters on this forum.

Sadly they don't post here (or anywhere) anymore.

There is little or nothing that you can draw from pre-season trials football.

If it were to be played by the same rules and construct as the regular season then you may be able to garner some salient information.

There is nothing useful to be gathered from a game where, as was on the case on the weekend, a whole team is subbed off and a new team sent in as replacement.

Roll on Game 1 -that's when the season starts.

fitz, if there was nothing useful then no coach would risk injury. Not much of a guide to form but certainly to what shape the team will play with and with whom in each position.

Anyway, looks/sounds like Bukuya slotted in at right centre for at least some periods during the second half with Frizell in the second row. That's from looking at Mr Fox's mini-highlights and from reading reports on the game at LU.

A good troll annoys the **** out of people.

SUCCESS!

A good troll gets people suckered in to what they are trying to troll, not about how **** they are at trolling. I just know what you are trying to do, it's so painful to watch.

There's not many professional coaches out there who like the whole trial thing - the risks are too high in comparison to what they're abstractly worth.

Parramatta - loses T. Mannah and J. Hayne in a match that means sweet FA - given the the importance of those two to their roster, they've had their season derailed even before it starts.

Do you reckon the Club and the players, player's sponsors / endorsers are going to be happy with that?

Those injuries could just as easily occurred in round 1/early rounds. So either way they would have the same problem. Not ideal but trials mean that, trial different players in the team under match conditions before playing for points.

Of course they wouldn't be pleased. The risks are obvious. So why do they do it then? I can't imagine anyone makes money from it.

IIRC, Hasler said he didn't want any trials a couple of years ago. Skipped them.

I even think we have done the some in the past at some point.

Surely if trials were scrapped, injuries at the start of the season will actually increase due to the players needing to get straight into 100% competitive rugby league without any practice games?

Card Shark, I have edited your post a bit to make it more obvious that you answered 'gosharkies' questions.

Thanks for the answers and feedback by the way.

I still think they have to do some physical contact work before the season starts though, and there is probably just as much chance getting injured during an internal hit-out as a pre-season trial match.

In saying that though, I'm glad that Gallen has been omitted from both trial matches. I don't really think players in his situation (who have toured and played in the all stars) need the run so much.
