Einstein Factor

After the NRL, this is one of the few television shows I can stomach. I was thinking if I were to go on it my topic would probably have to be the mighty sharks, but there would still be numerous large knowledge gaps (eg. Chris Wellman). Then I got to thinking, I wonder who is the Sharks Encyclopedia? I think we need some sort of Sharks Trivial Pursuit or somesuch to keep us occupied in the long off-season. Not sure how this could be done best though. Does anyone else think this idea has merit? Or am I a tragic Sharks nerd?

A little bit of trivia for you...

Without looking anything up, can anyone tell me who is the only NRL team we haven't beaten in the regular season this year? Bloody ridiculous isn't it?

We were terible, but so were they. We really should have won, even playing as badly as we did. We looked like we'd come back and hammer them in the second half, but then folded a few times when they attacked. They had by far the best team they fielded all year, and the very next week were down about 9 players (from playing the Sharkies!). Even so, it was our worst effort- not a bad year really with only 3 poor showings.

Manly was one of our other bad efforts, but we started slow, they had all the ball, and we never got in it. In atrocious conditions, a lousy completion rate vs the Warriors was our other very poor game. We still could have won that one with some good play in the last 15 minutes (as in, we were close enough), but we never looked like it and didn't deserve it.

Loss to Titans, at skilled, with their full team, after we'd been on the road for a month and with the Titans having all the ball wasn't too bad.

Loss to Tigers and Panthers at home was annoying, but both teams played a lot of ad lib football that could have gone against them but didn't. We were really better than them most of those games. We were similarly dominant v the Dragons (both games) with them having a few chances as well, but we won those 2. Out of the 4 games, we culd easily have won all 4 or lost all 4.

The loss to the Broncos was a "good" loss in that it showed we are easily able to match it with them. They were really very lucky in a lot of crucial calls.

Our wins over Knights and first one over Souths, were just there, with the Sharks only being a little better, and still could have lost if Knights or Souths had the luck the Broncos had.

Wins over Penrith, Melbourne, Cowboys were really quite good but made to look worse by the other team coming back.

Every other game the Sharks looked a fair bit better than their opponent, though not necessarily on the score board. (Wins over Sea Eagles, Cowboys, Broncos, Titans, Warriors, Eels, Raiders, Rabbitohs, Roosters and Tigers).

That tallys to- 3 bad losses (including the Bulldogs), 3 mediocre losses, 1 "good" loss, 4 very tight wins, 3 wins that were good but we nearly threw it away, and 10 good wins that we really earnt. Notice most the losses are against bottom 8 teams. We have an excellent record this year against the other finalists- by far the best, in fact.

As much as it pains me to say it, the chickenhawks were on fire that day and they would have beaten anyone in the comp in that form, by plenty. But should we meet again in the finals, the boot will be on the other foot! ;)

im forgetting the regular season. finals footy is different as the roosters and broncos have showed tonight with the massive lift in intensity.

what ever happened during the season doesnt mean a thing anymore. its semi finals footy and we need to leave everthing else behind and move on forward to the premiership

My boss is a dogs fan, and paid for a night out that Monday, for my family and his to go to the game. I lost a bottle of JD on it to him and had to cop a week or two of pain. But Im the one laughing now. Yeah we didn't beat them this year, but we also didn't get the spoon, so fu*k em I say lol.

The Rugby League Trivia Thread: Why is a "try" called a "try"?

After all the dramas that Bungy's kangaroo question caused, I've decided present a bit of trivia for the enjoyment of everyone. No don't worry, there's no trick questions, it doesn't matter how many legs you've got and it's independant of the existence (or otherwise) of God.

So, quite simply, todays question is this: "Why is a try called a try?" and for extra brownie points: "How many points were try's originally worth?"

Now, we all know how to use Google but it's more fun if you try to answer from you own knowledge of the history of Rugby League! So no cheating! Of course, I have got no way of knowing if you cheat or not...or do I????:sinister:

First in with the correct answer wins a warm, fuzzy sensation and the self satisfaction that comes from knowing that you, like, know stuff, you know?
