i never rated hughes and i really dont know why we got him. he hasnt done much, and if we kept degois, we would be in a better position than we are now.

its just ridiculous that the sharks management massacred a top 4 team by getting rid of all the key players. you would think that you would want to keep a certain degree of stability to carry into the next season, and that stability was in the senior players and leaders of the team in bird and kimmorley, the up-and-comings in anderson and degois.

obviously the bird issue was a touchy subject and was somewhat inevitable that we were gonna lose him. but kimmorley was hitting peak form, and suggesting that it was 'too little, too late' is just ignorant, cos i bet you he had an impact on the emotions and morale of the rest of the team.

so what do we do? we buy a bunch of used up has-beens to replace them and expect the team to just gel again... am i the only one who sees the madness in that?

dont get me wrong, barrett hasnt been that bad, but he hasnt particularly been that fantastic either. and sure, there's bin a few tries to come out of the new players, but results dont lie.

looks like we'll be drinking from a spoon this year.

Good to see someone else sees it that way. You are CORRECT!

He bought Donnelly only because we have lost 2 front rowers in the space of 5 weeks and Snowden is still better coming off the bench than starting. Our front row has little impact. Poor Dougie is trying his guts but no one else is bending the line.

Anyone that says letting Kimmorley go was good for Cronulla has not got a clue unfortunately, it disrupted teamwork/combinations/stability/experience. You can't just go and get that easily, and that is a fact.

Listen here if you have something worthwhile to say it by all means, but don't compare Maitua and Bird there is no comparison, not even in the same ballpark. You can have him back and Hughes back, useless signings.

Cronulla need to explain why they let De Gois go to sign him.

They let De Gois go simply because we were in search of money, and the only available replacement at the time was Hughes, but easily enough they could of unloaded someone not as crucial as De Gois, but the geniuses upstairs obviously knew what they were doing ;l

Your logic is correct Panda, I think they are cranky (mostly Steve Kneen) because they would have had the money had they kept Kimmorley and used the difference in Noddys and Barrett's bootie to keep Isaac.

I dont think they are going to be happy until with win a game and the replacements (Barrett & Corey) are instrumental in that win?

when the baz and seymour combo gets goin, and the rest of the team do their f****ing job and we get a bit of luck we'll be ok. what we lack with noddys absence is the ability to turn a team around with the kick chase. nth qld played the game at our end today and we got bogged and it drained us. i think once we start doin the lil things right we'll be back at the top in no time!!!

this is supposed to be a professional football team, these problems must be sorted out before the season starts. its no good come round 20 seeing the combination 'finally gel', because thats a wasted year.

we the supporters and we the members deserve results, and deserve them now!

this is just not acceptable

Welcome to Emu Plains, please be sure to visit our
i think you all need to drink a glass of chill the fugg out and watch the replay, look at what we created in attack today, could say we crossed the tryline everytime we had a chance only to one of the karnts in pink to screw us over, that almost free flowing attack, noddy wouldnt give us, noddy can only dream of having the passing game and kicking game of barrett..

cant forget, barretts first kick for us round 1 = 40/20, something noddy cant muster up because he cant kick that far on the angle needed

it will take time to come along in the halves, plus have new players like toops and reni and corey hughes in key positions

Stop making excuses. We are playing real games now not fu**ing trial games. The excuses I have heard are a joke. Seymour played well last year as he had Kimmorley as half, no more no less.

In my 37 years as a sharks supporter i have seen good and bad times, but atm i feel very low and disspirited about our current situation both on and off the field and as i have said before i believe that it is the culmination of a string of events over the past 6-8 months that has taken its toll on the club and there is no quick fix.

Noddy was the heart and soul of this footy side make no mistake about it, he is the most highly competitive player that i have seen and his abscence from the sharks is sorely missed and very noticeable.

DeGois and Bird, two tough and talented young guys who always seemed to be putting the sharks on the front foot in both attack and defence, gone !!!!

These three guys along with Gallen had rival teams scared to play us last season and you can also add Nutley and Ross to that list, they are all gone now ( except Gal ) and are not easy guys to replace.

The current side is trying hard but with the loss of such talent in such a short time frame we have lost that X factor.

Smith urges Blues selectors to look at De Gois

CONTENDER: Isaac De Gois

HE has already succeeded Danny Buderus in Newcastle's No.9 jersey and Knights coach Brian Smith reckons Isaac De Gois could also be the man to fill Buderus's boots for NSW in this year's Origin series.

But De Gois said he was only interested in establishing himself for Newcastle this season and that representative aspirations were for later in his NRL career.

Buderus played a NSW record 24 straight games for the Blues before stepping down after last year's 2-1 series loss to the Maroons, and most observers believe it is a race in two between Robbie Farah (Tigers) and Michael Ennis (Bulldogs) to take his place for the opening game in Melbourne on June 3.

Smith thrust De Gois's name forward after the former Cronulla rake's standout performance in Newcastle's 24-18 victory over the Dragons at Jubilee Oval on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old hooker scored the go-ahead try from dummy-half midway through the second half and made 37 tackles in and around the rucks, epitomising Newcastle's defensive effort.

"I try not to get involved in representative selections and I shouldn't even be prefacing my comment by saying that, I suppose," Smith said.

"But if the NSW selectors are looking for a good defender in the middle who's got some tidy skills at dummy-half as well, that performance by Isaac De Gois is absolutely top-shelf defensively.

"He's an amazing, tough young player [and] he's got a heap of improvement left in him, but we had plenty of those [on Saturday night]. We had a lot of courageous, tough guys who did a good job for us."

De Gois believed the game against the Dragons was his best in the six he has played for the Knights, but he was looking no further than next Sunday's trip to Campbelltown to play the Tigers, for whom he made his NRL debut in 2006.

"Robbie Farah and Michael Ennis are two quality hookers and I'm just looking at working on new combos with the boys here," De Gois said.

"I'm concentrating on Newcastle first. If that [Origin] comes, I'll be absolutely over the moon.

"It's something every NRL player wants to play in. But I just want to play good footy with the Knights and get their respect and hopefully keep winning games. I'm loving it at the moment and it's going real well.

"When you look at the way our forwards went, they really faced up to theirs and they've got a really good pack. But when our forwards go forward and play good, I can go forward so I really enjoyed it."
