Is there some kind of therapy for us old timers after we win the cup? I'm not sure how I'll take it.

My therapy is a week in Fiji at the end of October. It will officially be for my 20th wedding anniversary but if we win I'll very much be celebrating. I'll also take pleasure in confusing any yanks on the island who haven't got a clue about our game.

To be honest despite our position on the ladder I don't think we are the best team in the comp atm. We have room for improvement still.

Storm and Cowboys look really good. Storm have a well drilled unit where everyone knows their role, and Cowboys have such a strong forward pack that Thurston works behind and creates his magic.

But what blows me away is the belief that our team has - an underlying confidence that has been missing for the last 15 years and that really excites me.

The debutants and the second stringers really stepped up yesterday and showed that even if we get hit by injuries at season's end we can still deliver our maiden premiership.

Go get it Sharkies!

I think that comes from them being contenders for so long. Public perception has them as being better and to be fair, they are right. Melbourne has been clinical, while we have stuttered to get some of our wins.

I called it a few weeks ago. We won lose until round 26

If this comes true then we will have won the most consecutive games in the nrl with 20.

We will have amassed the most ladder points in a season with 46. Storm have 44 in their cheating years.

The most origin players selected ever.

Win or lose in the finals we could declare that this sharks side is the best sharks side of all time based solely on their season performance.

I know it would be better to win the GF to make it official but you can fluke a loss or a win in the final series and be judged on that. To be so successful during the season with so many origin players is no fluke and an indicator of an excellent team.

I understand what you're saying but it all means nothing if we don't win the premiership. Remember Parra in 2001? Their for & against was over 400. They lost the GF though so who cares.

I blame the old codgers who decided to implement the grand final concept.

Under the old system, where the premiers were the team with the most wins at the end of the season, we'd already have some meaningful silverware in the cabinet ;)

Edit:

Actually wiki just told me I'm wrong "First grade rugby league in NSW began in 1908, the first premiership deciding game was played at the Royal Agricultural Society Showground, with Souths defeating Easts 14-12. From 1912 to 1925, no finals system was in place, however in 1916, 1922, 1923 and 1924, a match was played as a tiebreaker to decide the season's premiership winner. From 1926 to 1953, finals were played under the Argus system, which produced a deciding game in two slightly differing ways.

All of these deciding games are now deemed to be grand finals, whether they were referred to as such at the time or not. From 1954 to the present, using a variety of systems, the deciding match has been explicitly termed a grand final, and no distinction is made between grand finals played under the auspices of the various governing bodies."

I think people are underestimating the achievement of 18 in a row (not that it has happened yet). If we win the grand final as well this year it would go down as total domination.

Me and brother have bought 10 GF tickets, so I'm expecting us to be there.

But before we can think of the GF, we have a Preliminary Final/Grand Final Qualifier to negotiate.

I've been following the Sharks for nearly 30 years - and our record in those matches is nothing short of horrendous.

I would say the closest we've come to winning one was probably in 2002 against the Warriors. I actually thought in the 2nd half we could win.

Some of the others we weren't even close.

Highlights of the 88 Major Semi against Canterbury came up on Facebook last night and it was painful to watch.

Anyway what I'm trying to say is the week before the GF is probably a tougher hurdle then the actual GF.

99...That's a half of football I wish I never witnessed.

It was gut-wrenching mate. I had recently separated from the mrs too, so my son and I were watching it separately...

To cut a long story short it was probably the most painful day in my life, and I've had some horrible ones.
