Why does channel 9 show their games in SD but Foxtel shows the channel 9 replays in HD? Does it purely come down to money as to why 9 won't show them in HD? How does HD work?

I think it's because Channel 9 isn't broadcast in HD? I think Gem is Nine's HD channel and they don't want to put it on there because they think old people don't know it exists or something. They also wont simulcast it because it would technically split the ratings. Old world thinking.

Ahh that makes sense, thanks Slide.

Can't tell you how much I hope they lose the next Rights.

Anyone here got the new foxtel IQ3 box? Wondering if it's worth upgrading. Is the HD picture quality the same as IQ2 HD?

Haven't got it, sounds like it is the same picture quality absolutely no improvement what so ever. Issues as it is first gen tech, same as what occurred with IQ2 in the beginning.

The only added benefit is the extra storage space, so you can record more Housewives of Melbourne on series link.

Waste.

Haha I have complained about channel 9 not showing their games in hd for years now.

Though in Melbourne they show all games on Gem, so that's fine! (Not origin though...)

Only just got Foxtel so I've never known any better. After watching a few games of NRL and AFL in HD over the weekend I'm struggling with SD now. Can't believe the difference in quality.

Yep, you'd be hating on channel 9 on Friday because of the rubbish sd (if you aren't hating on them already for showing the game on delay with ads).

Actually I have no idea, would WIN and NBN decide to show the Sharks game first?

I was interested to hear that the NRL has approached Google in regards to negotiating for the next upcoming rights. Legally there still needs to be games on FTA but if they happened to get it we'd hopefully be able to get completely get rid of Foxtel.

Legally you say. That could mean 1130 at night replays on channel 7.

Im happy enough with Foxtel. They offer such a good coverage of the whole thing. Games, pre games, talk shows, lower grades etc etc. gus gould is always crapping on about under 20s players but the land of FTA has never witnessed them

I'd prefer to pay for the NRL rather than a bunch of crap I never watch. I'll be very happy when games start being streamed.

If NRL started some HD streaming system (which they wont yet imo) theyd probably try to sting you more per week than foxtel is.

I love those who say, im not paying for foxtel i just watch it at the pub.
4 schooners in a game, 20-30 bucks depending on what you drink and where you drink it. Thats 120 a month. And thats just 4 beers haha

I doubt they'd slug you more than foxtel (which i have for the record). If i could get fox sports for 30 a month I'd be happy but i detest paying for crap i don't want. I'd happily pay the NRL 30 per month for the season for all games live, that's only 180 p.a.

You're right, it won't happen for a while but it's only a matter of time.

They had 25 a month (basic package) last month with no lock in, additional 25 for all sporting.
$50 a month is a lot cheaper than afew nights at the pub
