Yeah agree about mid season tests but that is moot now anyway unfortunately.
Agree, no extra fiddling needs to be done. Origin and international are different things and we just need to break the tie in where if you play origin you must play for Australia.I think it's just the grey areas that are the problem.
It took 33 years for everyone to agree on the criteria. Now that we've had 10 years of everyone agreeing, they want to open up the eligibility can-of-worms again. Right now it is black and white. Do we really want or need more grey areas?
If it's as simple as "the SoO criteria is not changing, but if you qualify under those criteria AND you qualify to play for a country other than Australia - it still counts" I think that is OK. Let's not fiddle with the SoO criteria though.
Good point. It used to be Country v City was the Origin feeder, then NSW v QLD the Australian feeder. It's all tits up now. The All-Stars and International games are way bigger than city/country and half our players are of non-Australian heritage.Agree, no extra fiddling needs to be done. They are separate but NSW and QLD are Australian states, you are representing your state in Australia. You are identifying as wanting to play for NSW (or QLD), Australia.Agree, no extra fiddling needs to be done. I get what you're saying, but feel it's outdated now given the massive amounts of P.I. players in the comp. It also means Australia essentially hordes all the best talent and kneecaps the international game. Origin is the pinnacle and will be for quite some time, but it shouldn't be a feeder for the Australian team anymore.I mean I personally don't see why the state you grew up in is more important than your bloodline but your bloodline is more important than the country you grew up in. But apparently that's just my view and I'm aware that doesn't make it right.
To me it looks like if it wasn't for the money these guys would choose International games over Origin.

I'd think most players should be fairly keen on also playing for Australia if selected.

That is definitely something that must be evened up. International match payments.Let's see....
The best figures I can find have it that players earn $15k per Origin game. International match earnings was $20k per Australian players and $2.5k per player for all other nations (though that's for the World Cup...).
The average number of games for an Origin player looks be be around 10 (QLD at 14, NSW at 7 interestingly), so that's a heftier lifetime value... $150k + say 5 game for Australia for $100k gives you $250k, verse say 5 games for Tonga = $25k. Sorry mum and dad, I'm an Aussie....
Did you know... Cameron Smith played 42 Origins and 56 tests for Australia. If he received payments for each one based on the numbers above (and they couldn't have, but let's just run with it) Smith would have earned, from representative games alone, $1.75M over his career.
While it doesn't mean it won't get ugly, apparently all NSW players have tested negative (RAT) today.IF Nicho got COVID from within the NSW Camp, could get Ugly

Origin was $30k per game before it was halved due to covid (currently $15k, but expected to go back to $30k next year).Let's see....

Called into Squad .The Chad!
Hope he kills itCalled into Squad .
Can't believe Sharks let a possible starting 2022 SOS halfback go and signed Nicho instead

So we get the disease riddled, greasy haired second-hand Storm utility back as our half, who forces us to play no-other-offers Trindall, while local-legend Chad kills it by single handedly ressurecting the Cowboys franchise and NSW's series hopes?Called into Squad .

Are you saying you don’t understand why someone’s bloodline/culture/family is more “important” to them then the state they grew up in ?I mean I personally don't see why the state you grew up in is more important than your bloodline but your bloodline is more important than the country you grew up in.
