On a more positive note, the U20’s Socceroos just knocked Japan out of the Asian Cup and will face Saudi Arabia in the final. That’s a huuuuuuge result, Japan were unbackable favourites for the tournament and their youth program is light years ahead of anyone else in Asia. This is a monster upset for us.
Game on tonight at 10.30pm AEDT. Would assume on one of the channel 10's

Edit: Nvr mind its 2MORO

THEY’VE DONE IT! THEY’VE BLOODY DONE IT! WHAT A SAVE STEVE HALL ON THE FIFTH PENALTY OF THE SHOOTOUT! Australia are U20 Asian Cup Champions!!! This is legitimately an absolute monster achievement!

This is our first ever Asian Cup at youth level.

So weird that something like this doesn’t even make it onto the news! Wouldn’t of heard about it

A bit of a crisis is forming for the Socceroos defensive stocks after Souttar’s season ending ACL injury a few months back. Former Sydney FC and current Portsmouth defender Hayden Matthews is now out for the season, he was in the last squad, made his debut, got a lot of game time and seen as a long term project by the Socceroos, now to add to that, regular starter Cam Burgess has injured his ankle in Ipswich’s game against Notts Forest. Considering we’re using a back 3 at the Socceroos these days this means our options are becoming threadbare for the qualifiers this month. We still have Kye Rowles and Jason Geria as regulars, but we might see a callup for someone like a Nectar Triantis.

Might have to blood a few of the youngsters from the Young Socceroos U20's Asian Cup win.

Hmm maybe one or two for the training camp but we’re at crunch time in the qualifying, we CANNOT slip up this time around, so I dont think he’ll take the risk with youngsters.

I think we’ll see Rowles, Geria and either Degenek or Deng in a back 3. Hopefully Triantis gets called into the squad and comes off the bench, he’s probably the youngster that is absolutely ready to step up, he can also play CDM as well, so there’s squad value there.

I've seen enough of Nestory Irankunda to know he'll be there too if he gets his attitude right.

That kid has megastar written all over him if he gets his head screwed on.

Jack Iredale might be a very good option as well. He’s playing extremely well on the left side of a back 3 for Hibernian.

Irankunda is a massive chance of returning to the fold. He’s starting regularly for his loan club Zurich in Switzerland and by all reports, is playing quite well, especially when used in a front 2.
