No Mannah unfortunately... the Cordoba rumour might have legs. Either that or our mate from Alice might be pulling on the boots and packing down in the front row.

Reckon that's the youngest squad in the comp?

Actually, this team reminds me a bit of the early 1990s Penrith Panthers... young and enthusiastic and team-tight. Interesting.

Anyway... two things I've noticed... 1) Albert Kelly has his left ankle iced and 2) Ben Orcher has the skinniest calves I've seen on a League player.

Yeah Fergo's looking big. Bukuya's looking broad too, interesting to compare him to toops there- pretty similar size and body shape. Aiton looks pretty big too.

Except for the bloke next to him, Gordon?

Possibly, but I'd rather he play like Folau does on the wing for qld... imagine having that sort of presence outside a centre who can pass, like Collis.

Maybe they played a game against each other or maybe just coincidence like it doesnt mater which one they wear.

Good to see training is going well and better than teams like dragons who have multiple members out til Jan or Feb and Costigan out for the first month of the season. Also teams with more rep players may have those guys still on holidays so maybe our side will be more prepared come next year...

it'll be interesting to see how we go this yr i have got high hopes with this squad

Yeah, on paper we have a very mobile attacking team, no passengers.

All the players signed for next season look well adjusted and happy to be at the shire. Will this be the team that ends the reign of the Storm because they will again be the ones to beat in 2010.
Bring on round 1 !!!!!!!!!

The way I see it...

Every team in the competition is one or two injuries or suspensions away from a horror season. Cronk is out for the first month... a couple more injuries for the Storm could see them struggling... particularly if the injury is to Cam Smith or Billy Slater

Regardless of all of the off-field crap of last year, we were always going to do it tough after the loss loss of Fraser Anderson, Brett Kearney and Ben Ross within a very short period of time.

Also, there's something that I'd like to mention about our horror year of the last season... if it could happen to us; then it could happen to them. I don't believe any team could have withstood the pressures that our boys had to undergo in 2009.

I guess what I'm saying is that an off-season is a long time in Rugby League and I reckon that there's more than a few twists and turns ahead of us before season 2010 kicks off next year.

We'll all just have to see how all of this pans out.

Me, I'd say that I'm "quietly confident". That doesn't mean that I reckon we'll win it this year, but I reckon the bunch of boys we've got there will be earning a bit of respect by the end of season 2010... you can bet on that!

While i see where you are coming from I don't know about the "if it could happen to us it could happen to them" mentality. I agree it is technically true but to say that sort of underestimates just what occured. So many injuries, a star player being released pre-season for a violent crime, a positive drug test, a team-wide scandal from years ago, multiple scandals involving the CEO, a change in board and a massive losing streak. Alot of things had to come together to create the year 2009 for the Sharks and I would be surprised if we see anything like it for a long time, if at all.

I like you am also quietly confident. I think our team's preparation is coming along very nicely and expect it is better than alot of teams, especially ones with more rep players. You mentioned Melbourne and that one I am very happy about as we are playing them first. They are usually slow starters anyway, they wil be missing Cronk, they have alot of players still on holidays and add to that mutiple players such as Brett White, John Kite, Ryan Tandy and others recovering from surgery. I think having them first round will be a good thing.

Ramzy,

Agreed it is a bit of a massive statement to say "If it could happen to us then it could happen to them".

My thoughts on that are that I truly believe that there is a lot of seriously dodgy things that go on in Rugby League and I do not beieve for one moment that Cronulla is the epicentre of all that is wrong.

2007 & 2008 saw the Bulldogs attacked from all angles and they withstood it and rebranded themselves into a Club which is making grand steps to win back the right sort of fans.

In some ways, the Sharks are in a very similar reputation rebuilding phase.

Even as I type this, it is possible that some superstar from the Broncos or St George or Parramatta may be in the throes of some drunken sordid act. In the process of media investigation of that, all sorts of wrongdoings and illegalities are unvovered and senior officials are expected to stand down... etc.,

What I'm suggesting here is the snowballing effect that high level media scrutiny will have on any Club. I'm sure the amount of dirt they uncover just depends on how far they're willing to dig.

I hope for the sake of Rugby League in this country that we do not have to deal with another year of sensationalist headlines bringing down the code. Who knows... we may yet see a huge exposé about graft and corruption in Netball!

Yeah you make a good point and I agree. While a club may not go through exactly what we did I do think when the media will see one problem in a club they will smell blood and go for more and then you have a crisis on your hands.

Although i do think it is ironic that you say the thing about while you type this a player from another club could do something in a drunken state and it turns out to be our star player. haha I blame you for this Fitz! :gal:

Ok,

Let's try that again and see if it works...

While I type this, Shimano has decided that The Sharks represent the sort of sponsorship opportunity that they've been looking for. They've done this with one and only proviso... that Andrew Ettingshausen be a spokesperson and Ambassador for the new strategic business alliance which includes a series of outdoor and adventure expos staged at Toyota Stadium as well as revolutionary international bi-sport competition of combined cycling and fishing.

And so, the Sutherland Shire Shimano Sharks are born!

(Hey, it might just work!)

A few points of note after checking out the pic.

1) Scorcher, Gordan and SFP, all have savage chicken legs
2) Weirdo is smaller than both Pomm & the Cov.
3) Toops is looking small (saying that he was looking small last year and was still a gun)
4) Matt Wright is HUGE
5) Taulima Tautai is ducking down
6) Bakuya is looking lean, musclie and well ready for this season!
7) Fergo is HUGE
8) Would like it if Vave had stood that we could see how big he is
9) Cuthbo has got to do something with that fro, it is shocking

On a slightly different note, I just realized that the other 1/2 of NSW U-18's team, Townsend hasnt been given a call up into the top 30, I thought they would of used the preseason as a opportunity to bond Kelly and him (oh well!)

Anyway has anyone heard any more news about pre season training? Bring on 2010 the wait has been a dead set killer!
