I'm shocked the state government is throwing money in. I'm sure they said recently they'd stop funding suburban grounds.

I though it was the southern stand, which houses HPU would be reworked to incorporate office space for shark have heart .org, HPu and then the increase seating also

How have they ****ed it up. Its not like they are spending 2.7 billion on pink bats ...

Demolishing the SFS, a 30 year old stadium, is a **** up. How could a stadium that young fall into an apparent state of disrepair? Would love Jones and Co to explain it.

If they had it their way they would have also demolished a 20 year old stadium.

Utter waste of taxpayer money on stadiums that are rarely more than 30% full.

At least it’s something that can be used and classed as an asset. 30 years is ****ing ancient for a stadium.
Brisbane have Suncorp. Melbourne have Etihad. Perth have a new stadium and Adelaide too.

Apples and oranges.

Take a look at average crowds at those other grounds you mentioned and the frequency of them.

I think with this deal they're probably giving up about $10-15 million of what they hoped to make from the development in return for the more guaranteed money now. That's based on my notes from last year's AGM if they were correct. Maybe a reasonable trade-off given the risks with the property downturn.

The share of the retail was planned to be sold off for a long time, and was never worth as much as speculated, certainly wasn't a river of gold.

I do worry about how the $18 million "future fund" would be invested, given a couple of things I've heard. Probably more reason to get an independent director or two on the board.

An $8 million State government grant for the Centre of Excellence was announced in 2017 but we had to match it dollar for dollar: https://www.sharks.com.au/news/2017/12/19/sharks-granted-centre-of-excellence-funding/ . Perhaps the Federal government is going to match that.

In the end this is all in the middle of the board election campaign, so I'll be sceptical of it all.

Does it even make a profit? On the odd occassion I'm there outside of game day it's dead.

Obviously there are more people living close by now but I just don't think clubs cut it now for people under ~50.

Club Central at Hurstville\Menai made $17 million profit in 2017-18 before income tax, and was sitting on $70 million + in cash and investments. So it can be done.

Yeah but far denser population around those clubs.

Anyway, hope it can be done but I'm skeptical.

I'm skeptical as well. But like someone said earlier, between a rock and a hard place. We never had the investment funds to finance this ourselves so we had to rely on the good will of others.

I think we're pretty lucky with Capital Bluestone, not that I know much about them. I'd expect that an investment company who didn't give a **** could have waited until we went under and then taken over the lot.

I really don't know, for now though, we're still alive and kicking.
