I’ve seen that article a few times now and it seems extremely misleading.

Unless I’m reading it wrong, under each picture they have - *Cronulla’s third party amounts, including disclosed and undisclosed payments. From that assessment what I’m getting out of it is they’re listing all of our third party payments, not the undisclosed amounts, which is extremely misleading.

That’s what it says to me too

Additionally I can’t see that the article ever says we exceeded the cap by any amount.

I guess they were setting up a system in order to make more cap funds available to spend on new players. Which never eventuated.

My guess is we didn’t have enough of our own money to spend.

I’m very dubious that Tele wouldnt push any (remotely significant) amount we went over the cap. The fact it’s not even mentioned...

The smart thing to do then would be to make the tpa’s official club sponsors, put up some signage, and then use the funds to pay players. Maybe I’m missing something but it just sounds like what we did is a very dumb way of doing things.

I don’t see any particular reason (besides a lot more paperwork for the club) that they couldn’t have been sponsors instead and we increase the contracted pay to these players.

Only other factor is, if a lot of these deals were 25-50k, as an official club sponsor what does that entitle you to?

Easiest thing to do is make the players salary public knowledge ala NFL. Not only would everyone be able to do the sums the players themselves would be like ‘Hang on a jolly minute, I’m supposed to be paid x according to this but I’m getting y’

I also have anger & concerns towards the NRL, how can journo germs get their grubby hands on this type of info?

1) the NRL want it leaked?
2) the NRL don’t have the right type of employee’s working for them?
